Byers Pottery Featured at Appalachian Craft Center
Post Date: 04.01.2011
Will and Trish Byers, of Black Mountain, say their mission is to create “simply beautiful, useful pots.” In other words, they don’t want their pottery gathering dust on a shelf, but rather used every day. As beautiful as they are, these pieces are high-fired to be safe in the microwave, oven, and dishwasher.
Will, a Knoxville native, learned his craft at the University of Tennessee and apprenticed with Monsarrat Pottery. After moving to Black Mountain in 2000, he met and married Trish, and the two began creating pottery together — from plates, cups and saucers, to goblets, serving bowls, and casseroles, and hand-built salt and pepper shakers and butter dishes. The earthy brown, blue, and golden glazes of their pottery reflect the couple’s love for the environment.
Byers Pottery is available at Appalachian Craft Center, 10 N. Spruce Street in downtown Asheville. Hours are 10–5 p.m. Monday through Saturday land by appointment (828.253.8499).
