EARTH : FIRE : Visions Ceremonial Clay Creations on Display at Clingman Cafe

Through the month of April, the works of three clay artists will be on exhibit at Clingman Café, 242 Clingman Avenue in Asheville’s River Arts District. EARTH : FIRE : VISIONS incorporates the feeling of clay, with its ancient memories.
Humans have been creating art and utensils from clay since the beginning, and even now memories emerge when humans touch the wet earth. Artists Lynn August, Stephen Biggerstaff, and Blue Fire MacMahon say that this show honors those memories and the sacredness in ceremonial clay creations.
“I am inspired to make work that references reliquaries, censors, and altars—rituals and reminders to keep me grounded,” says Stephen. “... creating these objects in clay allows me to communicate my experience of witness and remembrance while on my earthly adventure.”
Blue Fire MacMahon explains that he brings his dreams into being from the clay “which is the body of sacred mother earth.” Lynn concurs, “Ancient memories are my muse. As I sit in silence, memories surface as intricate designs ...”
