Timed to coincide with the “New Harmonies” Smithsonian exhibition at Mars Hill College (see article on page 12), the Madison County Arts Council is hosting an art show. “Tim Barnwell -- Thirty Years in the Mountains: A Photographic Retrospective” which will open on Friday, September 17, and run through November 6. The opening will be from 6–8 P.M.
Tim, who has spent the better part of his life documenting life throughout the southern Appalachian region, is the acclaimed author/photographer of The Face of Appalachia, and Hands in Harmony, and On Earth’s Furrowed Brow.
Also, Zuma Coffee, 7 North Main Street in Marshall, is hosting a Rob Amberg exhibit opening with a reception from 6–9 P.M. on Friday, October 1, and running through the month. The evening will include a round robin ballad sing. The exhibit will feature previously unprinted and unpublished images from the Sodom Laurel ballad singing community of the 1970s. Ongoing at Zuma Coffee is the Bobby Hick’s Blue- grass Jam 7–9 P.M. on Thursdays.
