Brevard Music Center in July

Plan to spend part of your summer reveling in the variety of melodies that span the world of music. Here are just a few of the highlights from Brevard Music Center’s July schedule. All of these concerts will be in Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium.

At 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, The Rance Allen Group and the NC A&T State University Fellowship Gospel Choir will present an uplifting afternoon of soulful gospel music. The Rance Allen Group burst on the recording scene in the 1970s and have been delighting audiences ever since. The Gospel Choir embraces its mission of providing a socio-religious organization that imparts a love of gospel music.

At 2 p.m. on Monday, July 4, the USO-themed show is a perfect choice for Independence Day. It will include several patriotic favorites, concluding with the 1812 Overture featuring a live cannon in the grand finale. At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, “A Night at the Movies” will highlight 80 years of Oscar Award-winning music from such movies as The Godfather, Crouching Tiger/HiddenDragon, The English Patient, and E.T.

At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 15, BMC Orchestra, with conductor Keith Lockhart, will present Symphony No. 5 by Gustav Mahler. This symphony is considered the Austrian composer’s finest achievement. The program will also include Richard Strauss’ Four Last Songs composed in 1948, and will feature soprano Nicole Cabell.

At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, Czech composer Antonín Leopold Dvorák’s final composition—New World Symphony—is the centerpiece of a multimedia program hosted by Joseph Horowitz. It promises to provide a dramatic finale to BMC’s “Dvorák in America Festival.”

Tickets begin at just $15. For more information about all the concerts in July and for the balance of the 2016 season, visit brevardmusic.org or call 828.862.2105.
