DWT’s Matinee Series for Students and Families

The 2016–2017 season of Diana Wortham Theatre’s Matinees Series promises a wide variety of theatrical delights. This series—popular with children, families, and teachers throughout Western North Carolina—offers curriculum-related shows at an affordable cost.

Approximately 10,000 children will have the chance to experience professional presentations that will include puppetry, dance, Shakespearean drama, musical artists, American history, and classical tales. For many of these students, this is the first time they will set foot inside a theater.

All too often, school funding for activities such as these is limited, and not all students are able to bring money from home so that they can attend a performance with their classmates. The Youth Education Scholarship (Y.E.S.) Fund was established to make it possible for students to attend these DWT productions. Funded by private donations, the Y.E.S. program covers the cost of admission for students who are on a free or reduced price lunch program.

Tickets go on sale September 1 for this exciting variety of productions in the new season of the Matinee Series:

  • Parsons Dance Company (October 19)
  • Twelfth Night presented by Warehouse Theatre (October 20)
