Quick Draw Art In The Making

Post Date: 04.01.2011

What can be done in 60 minutes? A lot of art, a lot of fun, and a lot of money raised for a worthy cause. QuickDraw, a perennial favorite event, is set to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the Laurel Ridge Country Club in Waynesville.

In one hour (or less, if somebody’s in a real hurry), area artists will race to create paintings, drawings, sculptures, stained glass, basketry, jewelry, woven textiles, and other works of art while patrons watch them in action.

The original art will be auctioned off and buyers will get the bragging rights to say they watched it being made. Artists will be donating half or more of the sale of their creations. Over the past ten years, QuickDraw buyers have funded $13,000 in college scholarships and $32,000 in innovative teaching projects, helping to boost creativity in every grade.

Tickets are $50, which includes auction registration and a meet-the-artists buffet. Proceeds support art teacher grants, innovative classroom art projects, and college scholarships. For event information and tickets, visit wncquickdraw.com or call 828.734.5747.
