Shop Talk: Firefly Craft Gallery

Last year, Karen Kennedy opened Firefly Craft Gallery in Flat Rock to feature fine art and craft handmade in America. “I think it’s important to support the artists,” says Karen. “I just love the quality and I love that someone that I might know made it.” In addition to interior design and collecting art, Kennedy has a special love for antiques, so you’ll also find some beautiful furniture displayed around the shop. Grab a gift or spoil yourself. There’s a price point for everyone. Some artists are local to Asheville, Flat Rock, and Hendersonville and many use traditional Appalachian craft techniques, such as woodcarving and felting. Browse through beautiful jewelry as well as whimsical items created from upcycled materials. This summer, come by for new garden art for your backyard. An open house will take place on Saturday, May 21, from 2–4 p.m. Meet some local artists and artisans who will be working on their craft, including Beverly Kies, Don Blackwell, Phoebe Blackwell, and Ken Peterson. Sweet iced tea and Willa’s Shortbread cookies will be served.

Firefly Craft Gallery is located at 2689-D Greenville Highway in Flat Rock, next to the post office. For more information, visit fireflycraftgallery.com, their Facebook page, or call 828.231.0764.
