Shop Talk: SJ Jung Studio

It is never too late to follow your dreams. That is the philosophy embraced by Rosa Jung who opened her Fairview-based art studio in July.

Born in South Korea, Rosa immigrated to the United States and settled in Minneapolis, working as a surgical nurse and taking evening classes at the University of Minnesota. “I began to pursue art courses because they piqued my interest,” she says. “This led to courses in ceramics, and I haven’t looked back since.”

For 30 years, Rosa spent her free time cultivating this passion. Early work depicted the aquatic life she recalled from growing up in a small fishing village. Once her son graduated from college and she retired from nursing, she fully committed herself to art, relocating to Asheville because it reminded her of South Korea.

“This is my first full-time business as a ceramic artist,” she says, “My materials are clay, glaze, and fire! My inspiration comes from God’s creations.”

SJ Jung Studio is located at 554 Old US74 Highway in Fairview, about 150 yards east of Angelo’s Restaurant. Learn more at sjjungstudio.com or by calling 828.767.2536.
