Bears & Turtles & Winter, Oh My!

Post Date: 01.01.2011

Even though the black bears Uno and Ursa, resident turtles, and some other creatures have begun their cold weather rituals, visitors can still enjoy all the other animals and exhibits at the Western North Carolina Nature Center. Local photographer John Haldane captured the Nature Center bears in this recent photo.

With the Center’s recent renovations, there is plenty to see, explore, and be inspired by. The Center’s winter schedule begins January 5. Winter hours are from 10–5 p.m. daily, but closed on Wednesdays, as well as January 1 and 17. For more information about the WNC Nature Center, call 828.298.5600 or visit wildwnc.org. The Center, 75 Gashes Creed Road, is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and features more than 250 animals native to the Southern Appalachians.
