Post Date: 12.03.2010

The Glen Rock Depot (glenrockdepot.com) officially opened with ceremonies and tours for the public from 3:30–7 P.M. on Thursday, December 2.

With help of a coalition of financiers and community partners, Mountain Housing Opportunities (MHO) has finalized what may will be the first LEED certified multiuse building in Asheville and the second phase of the Glen Rock Depot development.

The building is a 90,000 square foot commercial and residential building that includes 60 workforce apartments and 9,000 square feet of commercial storefronts in an area that has been underutilized since the 1960s. People are already moving into the apartments and adding even more energy to the already vibrant River Arts District.

The Glen Rock Depot development is a serving as a catalyst in an historic yet underutilized area within the River Arts District. Since MHO purchased the property in 2005, three other buildings have been purchased and renovated to include a number of small businesses, including a welcome variety of artist studios, arts education studio, and eateries.
