MANNA FoodBank Teams Up With Tupelo Honey

Post Date: 08.01.2010

MANNA FoodBank and Tupelo Honey Café South, 1829 Hendersonville Road, are joining forces to fight hunger in the local community. On Tuesday evenings through August 31, Tupelo Honey Café will host MANNA FoodBank Night and donate 10% of gross proceeds during the hours of 4:30–9 P.M.

In addition, there will be collection boxes available to the public for canned good donations. If you bring in a canned good, with purchase of an entrée, you will receive a free fried green tomatoes appetizer.

This year has continued to present hardships for many of our Western North Carolina neighbors. According to Hunger in America 2010, 106,600 different people seek emergency food assistance in a single year and one of every six of our neighbors still remains in need.

“Our local restaurants have always been amazingly generous in giving back,” says MANNA executive director Kitty Schaller. “You would be surprised at how much of an impact an effort such as this will have on our mission, and all by doing something as simple, and wonderful, as going out and enjoying a local meal,”

As a member of Feeding America—The Nation’s Food Bank Network, MANNA serves 315 nonprofit member agencies in 16 Western North Carolina counties.
