Next Step Recovery Celebrates 5th Anniversary

In just five years, Next Step Recovery (NSR) has become recognized as a leader in substance abuse recovery efforts in Western North Carolina. On Sunday, May 1, you can help NSR enjoy its successes by taking part in a Fifth Anniversary Celebration.
The event offers barbecue, live music, and raffle prizes from 2 to 6 p.m. at NSR’s Montford property located at 149 Courtland Avenue in Asheville. Prior to the Fifth Anniversary Celebration, NSR hosts a “New to You” yard sale from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on May 1. Find some great bargains and contribute to the efforts of Next Step Recovery by supporting the big yard sale.
Another aspect of the celebration is the raffle that features prizes such as a Grove Park Inn golf package, a Tiger Shark putter, a Swedish massage from Healing Sensations, and a hot stone massage from Global Vision Healing Arts, just to name a few. Lots of prizes are available, and raffle tickets are just $5. Proceeds go to Next Step Recovery.
Susan Stader, a certified addictions counselor, decided to fill a void in transitional living services for men in early recovery by opening Next Step Recovery for Men in 2006. The transitional living program is a voluntary option for men who want to continue working on recovery in a supportive and substance-free environment.
The men’s program quickly grew from one house to three and NSR opened a women’s program in 2009 in the former location of Weaverville’s Secret Garden Inn & Spa. Under the guidance of Susan, who acts as NSR’s executive director, the organization has also added the Open Door Recovery Center, which provides intensive group and individual recovery support in a non-residential center located in the Executive Park Building in Asheville.
Celebrate a milestone with NSR and all of the families that have been supported by the organization by attending the May 1 event.
