2016 TEDxTryon Set For September 10

This year’s TEDxTryon returns to Tryon Fine Arts Center Saturday, September 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Throughout the day, ten community leaders will address a variety of topics related to social issues, health and fitness, and evolving attitudes. Speakers of note include Bill Miller, Denise Medved, and Dean Crisp.

“They demonstrate a passion for their subjects and a crystallized ‘idea worth spreading’ that exemplifies our theme: Live…Inspire…Repeat,” says organizer Arlene Cassidy. “Our event also features four performances, including one spoken word segment and several archived TED Talks.”

Bill Miller is the impetus behind the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge. He is a retired Methodist minister with a strong sense of community volunteerism who will inspire the audience with the story of how a neglected eyesore was transformed into a treasured community asset.

Denise Medved, internationally renowned fitness entrepreneur, has a passion for helping others maintain optimal performance at any age. Utilizing concepts based on neuroplasticity, she will demonstrate how activities designed to stimulate five areas of the brain can enhance lifelong optimal functioning.

Dean Crisp is a 30-year law enforcement veteran turned FBI instructor. Today’s police leaders must find new ways to adjust and respond during economic crisis, and Dean advocates a new mindset that changes how they connect with the communities they serve.

Entertainers will include award-winning, Saluda-based singer-songwriter Aaron Burdette, and a contemporary dance duet set to Philip Glass’s work by Ballet Spartanburg. Included in the event is a farm-to-table luncheon featuring heirloom produce, indigenous foods, and regional recipes.

The Tryon Fine Arts Center is located at 34 Melrose Avenue, Tryon. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased at tedxtryon.com or by calling 828.393.0182. This event is very likely to sell out so advance purchase is highly recommended.
