China’s Revolution: Past and Present

In just three decades, China transformed itself from an impoverished agrarian economy to one of the strongest economic countries in the world. However, its population growth and industrial production create a series of problems in environment, sustainability, business and aging population, etc. At the same time, while economy is growing exceedingly fast, would China be able to maintain its philosophy, culture and civilization from thousands of years ago? Melody Li, the Lineberger Multicultural Scholar in Residence at Lenoir-Rhyne University, a native of China, will discuss the country’s recent innovations, transformations and social problems, as well as its history and culture that last until today.
