Elizabeth Kostova with Book Launch for The Shadow Land
March 13 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
Asheville’s lucky to have so many talented authors. Elizabeth Kostova (The Historian) is one, and launches the paperback release of her beautiful and poignant novel, The Shadow Land, at Malaprop’s Bookstore. A young American woman travels to Bulgaria, hoping that life abroad will salve the wounds left by the loss of her beloved brother. Soon after arriving, however, she helps an elderly couple into a taxi–and realizes too late that she has accidentally kept one of their bags. Inside she finds an ornately carved wooden box engraved with a name and discovers that she is holding an urn filled with human ashes. She sets out on a journey to return the urn, a voyage that also reveals Bulgaria’s unsettling history.
