The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a four-day schedule will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. The Essentials of HOAs and Condos: What You Need to Know as a Board Member or Manager

Join the NC Chapter of the Community Associations Institute (CAI) for a “board member essentials” program. Topics will include differences in types of community associations, important governing documents, owner obligations, and recently adopted/proposed legislation impacting community associations.
Speaker Jim Slaughter is a partner in the law firm of Black, Slaughter & Black, which has one of the state’s largest HOA and condo association practices. He was the first NC attorney inducted as a Fellow into the national College of Community Association Lawyers and served as the College’s 2014 national President. He also served as 2016 President of NC-CAI and is the author of two books on association meeting procedure.
