Asheville’s Poetry Cabaret Collective has been performing risqué and avant-garde shows twice a year for the past two years, in private clubs and as part of the Asheville Fringe Arts Festival. Here’s what people have been saying:
“Outrageous fun!” ~ Barbara Milford
“Poetry Cabaret Collective is raw, courageous, completely vulnerable, and yet totally sarcastic in the most ironic sense of those pairings. The group invites its audiences to explore the absurdity of not only the complex intra-personal world that we live in, but also that of our internal experience as well. Those that are thoughtful, inquisitive, and passionate about the living experience will be in good company with the Poetry Cabaret Collective.” ~ Rebecca OQuinn
“Poetry so good as to make you forget that you are hoping for more burlesque.”—Ashvegas
This year, they are taking the show to Washington, D.C., while it’s still legal to stand-up for free speech, speak erotic words, showcase boylesque and burlesque acts, make magic, and perform trump poetry near The White House.
Poetry Cabaret Director, Caleb Beissert explains, “It costs a lot to take a whole troupe to D.C. We’re performing extra shows down here in Asheville to help pay for our expenses.”
About Asheville’s Poetry Cabaret Collective
Poetry Cabaret is a band of poets, dancers, musicians, and other performers from Asheville, NC, who need your help to take their art and message of free expression to the steps of the capital. That’s right, Poetry Cabaret has been invited to perform at Capital Fringe in Washington, D.C., this July, and we want to represent Asheville with a show that has blown minds and changed lives locally with iterations happening over the past several years, including a run of shows at the 2017 Asheville Fringe Arts Festival. Now, we need to raise funds to take these artists and their middle fingers to DC. It takes a lot to put on these wild yet intelligent parties—travel costs, lodging, lighting, t-shirts, fuel for our fire eater, pasties for our dancers, pens for our poets, ramen and pizza fund, and maybe a little bit of gas money for these hard-working artists. Please consider making a contribution of any amount to our Kickstarter, scope our awesome prizes, and know that you will be making possible an unforgettable experience for our performers and audiences. Your investment in art is an investment in our world, especially in these scary times. Poetry Cabaret is Fearless!
