“Spheres of Influence”, Recent Paintings by Linda Gritta
March 1 @ 11:00 am - March 30 @ 12:00 pmFree
The Ramsey Library at UNC- Asheville is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent abstract paintings by Asheville artist Linda Gritta. The exhibition, “Spheres of Influence”, will be on display in the Blowers Gallery of the Ramsey Library from March 1st through 30th.
Originally from Chicago, Linda Gritta received her Fine Arts degree from Converse College and furthered her studies at the New York Studio School. Undergirded by a solid foundation in traditional painting and printmaking, Gritta’s work has taken a strong and energetic turn towards abstraction over the past several years. Driven by her fascination with the order and the apparent chaos we find in nature, physics and within ourselves, these paintings exploit the unique properties and possibilities of paint. Pairing thin washy veils with thick impasto passages – speaking in color rather than with words – Gritta describes the mysterious paradox within which we live. From tiny lushly-painted spheres to grandly meandering abstract paintings, this exhibition captures the full and honest attempt of one artist to express both the simplicity and the complexity of her world.
Exhibition Dates: March 1-30, 2018
