The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a four-day schedule will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Swannanoa Valley Museum Rim Hike – Rhododendron Rim

This is the first hike of the 2018 Swannanoa Rim Hike Series – a sequence of 11 monthly hikes that travel 31 miles across the highest and most historic skyline in Eastern America. This hike passes through property once owned by Spanish architect Rafael Guastavino, best known for his innovative system of self-supporting arches and vaults using interlocking tiles. He retired in Black Mountain and built an eclectic estate called Rhododendron and known locally as the “Spanish Castle.”
