Destination Station: Works Of Zig-Zag Soul
Post Date: 12.01.2010

Webster’s dictionary contains more than 2,500 words ending in “ation.” That, and an early childhood memory, served as inspiration for a new exhibit of works by Justin West (aka, Zig-Zag Soul), a self-professed up-and- coming and prolific Asheville artist.
When Justin’s father was two years old, he was featured in a South Carolina newspaper article about a conductor who had stopped his train with amazing precision. To honor that moment, Justin’s show will be held in front of an active railroad at the Pump Gallery at Phil Mechanic Studios on Roberts Street in the River Arts District.
“We are all barely here, that is for sure,” says Justin. “This realization and desire to live life to the bone is evident in my work. With these pieces, I have continued to expand my mixed media skills as I leap away from the rectangular canvas alone.” All the pieces in the show are titled with “ation” words + the word “station.” He adds, “The meanings of my works are sometimes lengthy and I am happy to share their stories upon request.
The show will run through January 8, and an opening reception will be held from 7–10 p.m. on December 4. For more information, visit zigzagsoul.com.
