Diana Wortham Theatre Hosts A Swannanoa Solstice
Post Date: 12.01.2010
Grammy Award-winning musicians Al Petteway and Amy White are joining with Robin Bullock to lead the eighth anniversary edition of A Swannanoa Solstice at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 19, at Diana Wortham Theatre at Pack Place in downtown Asheville. The concert, a reflection on the holiday season, is presented in association with The Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College.
In this annual celebration, Al and Amy, along with Robin and a host of special guests, will share holiday songs old and new, religious and secular, joyful and poignant, in a warm and intimate winter concert.
Among those performing will be Appalachian storyteller and ballad singer Sheila Kay Adams, award-winning bagpipers Steve Agan and E.J. Jones, Cape Breton-style stepdancers The Twisty Cuffs, and fiddler and harpist Alex Reidinger. The concert will be hosted by Doug Orr, president emeritus of Warren Wilson College and founder of the Swannanoa Gathering.
Al and Amy perform an exciting blend of original, traditional, contemporary Celtic- and Appalachian-influenced music. Robin is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who also blends Appa- lachian and ancient Celtic melodies into one powerful musical vision.
A Swannanoa Solstice is presented annually in partnership with The Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College, and is made possible by Performance Sponsors Bill & Marilyn Hubbard, and by Mainstage Special Attractions Series Sponsors Joel & Deborah Berkowitz, Parsec Financial and Richard Howell DDA, with additional support from Media Sponsors 98.1 The River and The Laurel of Asheville.
