The Nutcracker & the Mouse King at Diana Wortham

In 1816, the German author Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann penned the popular tale of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King that has be- come the basis of numerous holiday classic dance productions over the years. But this season, the Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre has returned to the original story for inspiration to create a new contemporary dance ballet for the whole family. Their production will be presented at the Diana Wortham Theatre December 3 and 4.
This magical performance, full of exquisite dancers, beautiful costumes, original choreography, and magnificent sets will delight audiences of all ages. It is a wonderful Christmas story, full of adventure, courage, loyalty, and love that comes alive in a spectacular modern dance experience.
Where does the Nutcracker come from? Why must he defeat the Mouse King? How will the Nutcracker’s curse be broken by a courageous young lady? Come and see the “real” story on the beloved tale of the Nutcracker.
The Nutcracker and the Mouse King will be performed by Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre, its Junior and Tween companies, as well as the students of the New Studio of Dance. The production is directed by Giles and Susan Collard with original choreography by Susan Collard, Giles Collard, Nelson Reyes, Jenni Cockrell, Joe Mohar, Brandi Hand, Shannon Phillips, Amy Hamilton, and Karen George.
