Asheville Chamber Music Series Hosts March Concerts

Post Date: 03.01.2011

The Asheville Chamber Music Series, now in its 58th season, will present two concerts this month. Both will be held in Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville, 1 Edwin Place, and both will begin at 8 P.M.

First up, the Audubon Quartet will be in concert on Friday, March 4. Founded in 1974, the ensemble has won acclaim throughout the world, winning top prizes in three major competitions in their first four years together. In 1981, the group was the first American quartet to visit the People’s Republic of China. “They listen to one another and adjust instinctively to produce a sound of strikingly beautiful luminescent quality that invariably serves the music with grace, sophistication, and vibrancy,” reported The New York Times.

On Friday, March 25, the Miro Quartet will take the stage. Organized 16 years ago at the Oberlin Conservatory, the Miro Quartet won the Fischoff, Banff, and Coleman competitions, as well as the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award and the Cleveland Quartet Award. In addition, the Miro Quartet was the first chamber ensemble to be awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant.

As quartet-in-residence at the University of Texas School of Music, the ensemble’s members teach private students and coach chamber music groups.

Tickets are $35 at the door (students under 25 are admitted free space permitting). To preorder tickets, call 828.259.3626. At 4:15 P.M. on Thursday preceding each concert, a pre-concert talk will be held at UNCA’s Reuter Center. These talks are free and open to the public.
