A New Exhibition of Contemporary Works to Gallery 86

Post Date: 05.01.2011

Opening May 4 and running through May 30, the Haywood County Arts Council is presenting “310 ART: Contemporary Works from the River Arts District.” A reception will be held from 6–9 P.M. on Friday, May 6, at the Council’s Gallery 86, 86 N. Main Street in Waynesville in conjunction with the town’s Art After Dark. The reception is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.

The exhibition features work by artists at the 310 Art Gallery at Riverview Station (Suite 310) in Asheville’s River Arts District. Participating artists are: Karen Weihs, Fleta Wells Monaghan, Karen Ives, Bob Martin, Mary Farmer, Betty Carlson, Mark Holland, Julie Robinson, Elizabeth Henderson, Marsha Balbier, and, Sarah Wells Rolland.

The mission of 310 ART is to support experimentation and growth as a primary focus. Situated along the French Broad River in a poetically timeworn warehouse arts building, 310 ART attracts both aspiring and professional artists to special exhibitions at the gallery, and helps provide teaching and learning opportunities in the classroom.

As founder Fleta Monaghan explains, “Artists are constantly juggling time between learning, creating, and the business aspects of the job of being an art- ist. At 310 ART, we support the (artists) by advocating for continued growth and experimentation for each person who exhibits.”

The Haywood County Arts Council gallery is located at 86 N. Main Street in Waynesville. For more information about the exhibition, visit haywoodarts.org and on Facebook.
