Annual Book Sale in Brevard Supports Scholarships

Post Date: 06.01.2011

Note to avid readers and book collectors: make room on your shelves for the American Association of University Women's (AAUW) 42nd annual Yellow Box book sale June 26 - 30 at Brevard College's Bashamer Gym.

A long-standing tradition, the book sale raises money for scholarships for girls and women from Transylvania County. Prior to the sale, AAUW members will place yellow collection boxes in 50 locations across the county. The boxes are then collected and books are sorted by category for resale.

From a modest hundred or so books sold in 1979 to more than 15,000 sold in 2010, each year has met with increasing success. Funds raised from the book sale are allocated to educational institutions that choose scholarship recipients.

There are 23 main categories of books and you’ll be able to find titles on health, fitness, nutrition, gardening, decorating, crafts and home improvement, and religion among many others. Book sale hours are 3–9 P.M. on Sunday, 10–7 P.M. Monday through Wednesday, and there will be a half-price sale Thursday from 10–5 P.M. and member’s special from 3–5 P.M.
