Art in Bloom in Black Mountain
Post Date: 06.01.2011
June 16–19, the Black Mountain Center for the Arts (BMCA), 225 W. State Street, is hosting for the fifth year in a row Art in Bloom, an event combining art on loan from regional galleries with floral creations. This year’s theme is “Cultivate Your Passion.”
Designers from both Western and Japanese-inspired Ikebana traditions have been invited to interpret the works of art, using flowers and other natural materials. There will be a preview party at 6 P.M. on June 16, giving attendees their first glimpse of the creations and providing them an opportunity to meet the floral designers. Tickets to the Preview Party are $30 with reservations recommended.
On Friday and Saturday, June 17–18, from 10–4 P.M., there will be a self-guided Cottage Garden Tour of several private gardens in Black Mountain. Tickets are $15 (good for both days) and include a discount to various Black Mountain restaurants for lunch. At each garden, there will be local artists painting en plain air. The paintings they produce will be on display and for sale at BMCA on Sunday from noon–4 P.M.
On Friday afternoon from 2–4 P.M., June 17, Bellagio and Bellagio Everyday will present art to wear in the Art in Bloom Tea and Fashion Show. Attendees will also enjoy a variety of locally made delicacies and desserts. Tickets to Tea and Fashion show are $20. On Saturday morning, is “Quiche and Kitsch,” a brunch event featuring a panel of regional artists and gardeners showing and discussing garden art, both functional and out-of-the-ordinary. Tickets to this event are $15.
Admission to the Art in Bloom exhibit is $5, or is included in any of the separate event tickets. Tickets may be purchased by calling 828.669.0930. For more information, visit blackmountainarts.org.
