Asheville Legend Charles Pickens at the YMI
Post Date: 07.01.2011
Charles Pickens, the voice in the music duo Pic ’n Bill, will perform at YMI Cultural Center at 7 p.m. on July 22. For those who’ve lived in Asheville for decades, his voice still resounds. He will perform his blues and gospel favorites along with some new songs. God Can Use Anyone ... even me, his memoir and CD, will be available for sale.
“Pic” (as he is known by loving fans) played the piano at the YMI during his boyhood years before going on the road as a rising star in the music world. His fame turned into a fall when he handed over control of his life to drugs and alcohol. He now devotes his time to his music and his ministry through his music.
He lives in the Vanderbilt Apartments, the same building where in his youth he worked as both elevator attendant and bellman.
Tickets are $20 for nonmembers, $10 for members and seniors. The YMI Center is located at 39 S. Market Street. Call 828.252.4614 or visit ymicc.org for information.
