10th Organicfest Set for September 10 at Pack Square Park
Post Date: 09.01.2011In 1992, the Organic Trade Association started Organic Harvest Month to promote organic food and agriculture through regional and local events. Ten years ago, Asheville’s Imagine Center, started Organicfest that has grown to be one of the nation’s largest regional organic festival.
Pack Square Park will host this year’s Organicfest on September 10 from 10 a.m.–9 p.m. with a celebration of National Organic Harvest month and everything green and organic. The nonprofit Imagine Center, whose mission is to promote organics through educational and fun events, has created an day featuring an array of local, regional, and national businesses that promote healthy, organic foods, organic and green products, and sustainable business practices.
The event offers organic food and beverages, live music, drawings for organic goods and gift certificates, organic and green vendors, and natural arts and crafts. Environmental organizations will share information and provide help with organic living, organic gardening, organic farming, and earth-friendly living. Fun, eco-friendly activities for kids, including the Organicfest Kids Garden Parade at 1 p.m., will educate and entertain.
The organic industry is one of the fastest growing, consumer-driven industries in the United States. This special event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate, highlight, and promote the pure, organic food and products available in our community, create a connection to the people who grow and supply organic, and find out why organic is good for people and the planet.
