310 ART Gallery Hosts New Interactive Exhibit

Post Date: 09.01.2011

Local artist Julie Robinson is featured in Play with Perception, an interactive art exhibit running through October 6 at 310 ART Gallery, 310 Riverview Station North in the River Arts District. There will be an opening reception from 5–7 p.m. on Saturday, September 10.

Viewers of the exhibit are invited to interact with the works. Each painting will have a commentary panel for people to write (or draw) their responses to the question posed: what is the first word or emotion that comes to mind?

Accompanying the show will be a short video of the pieces on exhibit posted on the artist’s website and Facebook page.

“I wanted to create a show that would engage and involve the viewer in my paintings,” says Julie. “I’m fascinated to hear how people respond to my work, especially because my art is abstract and completely open to interpretation. It’s an interesting phenomenon to me how we are all so interconnected and always surprising to me to learn what is going on in someone else’s mind.”

She adds, “Many of my pieces remind me of something you might find in a culture like India, like a weathered wall with cracks and crevices ... and it seems like you can look back through the patina of time.”
