New Asheville Music Venue Features Trio of Bands Nov. 5
Post Date: 10.28.2011
The area's newest music venue offers a triple-header of live music on November 5 as Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Zongo Junction, and Kung Fu Dynamite perform live at the Asheville Music Hall.
Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey (JFJO) brings its critically acclaimed "red dirt jazz" to Asheville for the first time in three years. Founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1994, the band has evolved over the years and has had a number of lineup changes. The group now consists of Brian Haas on piano, Josh Raymer on drums, Chris Combs on lap steel, and Jeff Harshbarger on double bass.
JFJO has released 21 records and toured many of the world's top venues. The band wows live audiences with its impressionistic and improvisational sounds.
Zongo Junction is generating a buzz in New York City's burgeoning Afrobeat scene. The 12-piece ensemble blends West African rhythms with funk, jazz, and soul. The band excites dance floors wherever it performs. Its debut album, Thieves!, speaks truth-to-power with humor and soul.
Kung Fu Dynamite formed in Asheville in 2005. Since its conception, Kung Fu Dynamite has been infusing its sound with intense energy and power, cross pollinating musical genres such as rock, blues, funk, and jazz. The band combines crafted song structure with free-form improvisation to keep the dynamics of its music fresh and unpredictable.
The show marks one of the early performances at the new Asheville Music Hall, located at 31 Patton Avenue, upstairs from the One Stop Deli & Bar. The performance begins at 10 p.m. Doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. For more information, visit ashevillemusichall.com.
