Bringing in the New Year with Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band
Post Date: 01.01.2012
Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band will show you the way to the New Year with a rockin’ off-the-wall concert at Asheville Music Hall, 31 Patton Avenue, on December 31. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the show begins at 10 p.m. Also performing will be Sci Fi, a three-piece instrumental group out of Wilmington, with the able assistance of DJ Brett Rock.
Just about everyone in these parts knows the Booty Band. But in case you’re new to these parts, just know that this six-piece self-described “funk monster” will raise the roof along with your spirits. The Booty Band weaves elements of hip- hop, reggae, ska, and Latin soul into a mix that is truly its own.
The Booty Band’s unpredictable stage show, constant reshuffling of instruments, and crowd-raising antics have built the band a loyal following. They’ve become one of the country’s favorite touring acts (they had three national tours in 2010 alone), and their shows almost always sell out.
So act quickly to get your tickets ($20 advance, $25 at the door) to this 21-and-over night of musical revelry. An evening—with Lee Allen on drums, Mary Frances on keys, Greg Hollowell on sax and flute, Derrick Johnson on trombone, Al Ingram on bass, and JP Miller on Guitar—is not one you’ll soon forget.
