Newsworthy Drawing Club Offers Book And Show
Post Date: 01.27.2012
The Newsworthy Drawing Club has debuted their fourth annual hand-bound and illustrated book, Newsworthy. These limited edition books are composed of drawings loosely based upon factual news reports gathered from various sources throughout the year of 2011.
A show comprised of the original drawings as well as hardcover and paperback books is on display at Harvest Records until February 1. Newsworthy is a retrospective of the most macabre, strange, and beautiful events from around the world that occurred during the previous year.
The Newsworthy Drawing club is a collective of artists based in Asheville, holding weekly meetings in which unusual current events are exchanged and collaboratively illustrated. Self-enforced guidelines strictly prohibit the use of photographs or images from the original sources as reference.
The book project is the brainchild of local artist Julie Armbruster and dressmaker/artist R. Brooke Priddy. Newsworthy Drawing Club was formerly known as Segment Sixteen Drawing Club and has roots dating back to 2005.
All sales go toward the operating expenses of the club. The limited edition hardcover books are $65, paperbacks are $12, original drawings mounted on panel are $65, and giclee prints are $35 (unmounted) $45 (mounted).
Harvest Records is located at 415 Haywood Road in Asheville. The show is on display throughout January. For more information on the club visit facebook.com/newsworthy
