Asheville Organicfest at Pack Square Park

Green Goodness for Us All at Organicfest August 28

Now in its 15th year, Organicfest will once again take over Pack Square Park in downtown Asheville on Sunday, August 28, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to kick off September, which is National Organic Harvest Month. The theme for 2016 is Organic is good…for people and planet.

This annual festival celebrates everything organic, green, sustainable, healthy, and fun,” says event organizer Debi Athos. “The mission of this special community event is to continue to support the growth of organics and healthy living in our rich organic city and inspire other cities to do the same.”

A stroll through the Organicfest Marketplace is a testament to the fact that organics is much more than food. Festivalgoers can learn about organic gardening, gather healthy lifestyle tips from local health practitioners, or help weave a tapestry for a local nonprofit. Everyone can enjoy live music by local musicians, savor tasty organic treats, try out arts and crafts, and sample cooking classes. Throughout the day, local and national businesses will give away prizes of organic baskets, goodies, and gift certificates.

Kids can encounter plenty of eco-friendly fun and games in the Busy Bee! Play Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bee City USA and the “queen bee,” beekeeping educator Debra Roberts, will join the celebration again this year to lead the annual Organicfest “Bee Organic!” Garden Parade. Everyone is invited to “bee-a- bug” and come to the fest dressed as their favorite good bug (honeybee, dragonfly, or ladybug) or garden fairy, and march in the parade. Come early if you want to help make parade arts and crafts.

Designed as a low-impact, green event featuring recycling and composting, Organicfest is presented by a local, all-volunteer nonprofit group in partnership with Asheville Greenworks. Sponsors include: The Laurel of Asheville, Organic Matters Media, Mountain Rose Herbs, Natural Lifestyle, SilitCookware.com, 880 AM The Revolution, 98.1 The River, Great Life Global, and Dig Local.
