Old-Time Music: Haywood Arts Council

Post Date: 04.01.2011

To help raise money for the Haywood County Arts Council’s Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) program, the organization is holding BBQ supper and a music JAMboree from 6–8 P.M. on Saturday, April 9, at the old Fines Creek School in Clyde.

The event will include old-time music by JAM students and instructors, square dancing, flat foot dancing, and a cake walk. The group will also present the first Haywood County Master Mountain Musician Award to 86-year-old Jim Sisk from Canton. Former state senator Joe Sam Queen will emcee the program and present the award to Mr. Sisk.

Tickets ($15 for adults and $10 for students under 18 for the BBQ and JAMboree, and $10 and $5 just for the JAMboree) are available from the Haywood County Arts Council, 86 N. Main Street in Waynesville. Arts Council hours are 10–5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, or call 828.452.0593.
