The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a four-day schedule will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Darren Nicholson and his band are joined by Grammy winning Balsam Range bandmate Marc Pruett for one set of bluegrass and one set of classic country – with Pruett on lap steel!
Dr. Marc Pruett, a founding member of Balsam Range (Balsam Range), is a Grammy-winning banjo picker who has played on 4 albums with Ricky Skaggs including his first record in 1974 and the 1997 Grammy award winner “Bluegrass Rules!” He also led the Marc Pruett Band for 10 years. His music was used for over a dozen years in the highly acclaimed outdoor drama Unto These Hills in Cherokee, NC. Dr. Pruett earned his honorary doctorate from Western Carolina University in 2010 for his contributions to Bluegrass Music.
Darren Nicholson (Darren Nicholson Music) is a Grammy Award Nominee and a recipient of 5 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards, Including Entertainer of the Year (2014), Song of the Year (2011), and Album of the Year (2006). He has appeared countless times on WSM’s Grand Ole Opry, at the Ryman Auditorium, CMT, GAC and many of the world’s most famous venues and networks. Currently, he records and tours as a full-time, founding member of Balsam Range with all sorts of collaborative efforts each year.
