Secret Worlds / An Exhibition of Watercolor Paintings by Selena Mecho
March 8 @ 6:00 pm - March 23 @ 9:00 pm
Selena Mecho, a native of Western North Carolina, makes art inspired by the beauty of both the natural world and the female form. Exploring many different mediums and styles – ranging from aerosol to watercolor and from pop art inspired pieces to whimsical scenes of nature and makebelieve – Mecho channels the different stages of her life through her work.
The figures that appear in all of her paintings are based on a character named Lucy. Originally inspired by a childhood game, Lucy lives on in paintings and murals, and has over time morphed into many forms – viewed as a symbol of self love and body positivity by some.
This series of large scale watercolor paintings is an attempt to capture the feelings of safety and peace Selena finds in the forest. In the beginning of the paintings, the women are life sized, but they shrink down to be fully embraced by moss and leaves, getting closer to the Mecho’s vision.
Opening reception is on Friday, March 8th 6pm – 9pm. Work will be on display thru March 23rd.
