The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. Take a Walk through WWII History

“A Walk Through History” is a day-and-a-half collection of stories of WWII offered by the Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas in Brevard on November 3 & 4. Three well-known WWII authors/historians and three WWII veterans from Western North Carolina will team up to share the stories that made the history of the Greatest Generation. The stories of the heroes who fought and saved the world from tyranny.
This event brings these heroes’ service and stories alive. For 1 ½ days, the audience will be “up close and personal” with the six speakers with plenty of time for questions, getting to know them, and getting books signed. Each WWII veterans is matched up with an author whose book tells a “big picture” story of the D-Day invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, and WWII in the Pacific.

The location of this conference (55 E. Jordan Street in Brevard) is just two blocks from the Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas. Included in your itinerary is a guided tour of the museum’s WWII-Europe and WWII-Pacific galleries to wrap up Friday’s activities. Guides will lead you on an optional stroll on Brevard’s Main Street with its historic buildings, unique shops, galleries, outdoor sculptures, coffee shops, and restaurants. Friday’s activities end with a reception where these authors and WWII veterans will sign their books for interested buyers. The stories of the veterans are in the book “We Shall Come Home Victorious” and in a separate booklet. All proceeds benefit the museum.
Registration is $125. Group discounts are: 5-9 attendees: $100 each if paid together; 10+ attendees: $90 each if paid together.
