SUMMARY:57th Annual Juried Undergraduate Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Western Carolina University’s Annual Juried Undergraduate Exhibition is one of the longest-running Catamount art traditions. This exhibition is an extraordinary opportunity for WCU undergraduate students to share their artwork with a larger public and to enhance their skills in presenting artwork in a professional gallery setting. Entries are reviewed by an outside art professional who selects the works for exhibition at the WCU Fine Art Museum. Selected works will be on view at the Museum from February 18 through March 21\, 2025. An awards ceremony will be held at the WCU Fine Art Museum on Thursday\, March 20\, 2025\, from 5:00-7:00 PM. This year\, the exhibition juror is Marie Cochran\, visual artist and founding curator of the Affrilachian Artist Project. \nMuseum Hours:\nThe WCU Fine Art Museum exhibitions and events are free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Hurricane Helene roared through our region and blew apart our lives in ways both monumental and mundane. If you’ve struggled to put your experiences of Helene into words – and you’d really like to – this workshop is designed to help you tell your stories from the storm. Participants will work through guided writing exercises each session to gather and articulate their memories of Helene and its aftermath. Sessions are designed to help you begin writing rather than to construct a finished narrative for publication (though we’ll be generating a lot of material that you could work with). DESCRIPTION:Are you in need of some good luck? Come help us treat hemlocks to protect against hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) at Little Bradley Falls in Green River Game Land! We’ll be hosting a Volunteer Hemlock Treatment Workday for good luck on Monday\, March 17th\, from 10am – 4pm.  \nHemlock trees are an essential and irreplaceable part of western North Carolina’s forests\, but for over 20 years\, they’ve been under threat from the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA)—an invasive insect that can kill trees in as little as four years. \nPlease note\, volunteers will be working with insecticide and moving through the forest off trail in potentially challenging terrain. Every volunteer will be paired with an experienced\, licensed professional who will provide instruction and guidance.  \nIn case of inclement weather\, the backup date will be Thursday\, April 17th.  \nReach out to Ayla at volunteer@savehemlocksnc.org or (828) 252-4783 with any questions.
