SUMMARY:Our Living Record at Revolve Gallery
DESCRIPTION:A multimedia exhibit honoring queer and trans archives\, memory\, and resistance \nAsheville\, NC – Our Living Record\, a new exhibition from Southern Equality Studios – – the art program of The Campaign for Southern Equality\, on view starting July 10 through August 17\, 2025 at Revolve Gallery (821 Riverside Dr. Asheville\, NC 28801). This vibrant and deeply personal show features artwork from Southern LGBTQ+ community members and allies who explore preserving queer memory in the face of cultural erasure. \nThe exhibition includes photography\, sculpture\, projection\, ephemera\, and participatory archival interactive installations. Each piece reflects how personal objects\, imagery\, and memories connect to the broader story of LGBTQ+ resilience\, resistance\, and joy. \n“Queer and trans histories are often fragmented or excluded from dominant narratives\,” says curator Liz Williams. “Our Living Record asks: what happens when we tell our stories ourselves—through our photos\, our letters\, our zines\, our everyday rituals? This exhibition is a gathering of those fragments. A way to say: we were here\, we are here and we will sustain and remain.” \nFeatured artists include:\nLenny Kyriakoulis\, Kass Patterson \, Daniel Simone\, Crain Cutler\, Eduardo Moraes de Oliveira Barbosa\, Amanda Simons\, Lindsay Jones\, and Jeannie Regan \nThe exhibition also includes community-sourced materials\, family snapshots\, protest signs\, and objects from queer everyday life. An Archival Activation Event will take place on July 30\, featuring storytelling\, readings\, an interactive archive activation for WNC LGBTQIA+ Archive Project. \nArtists and community members were asked to submit personal photos\, letters\, or historical ephemera that could be projected onto them during their portrait session—creating an image that literally places history on the body. Each participant also sat for a filmed interview sharing why their items matter\, what stories need to be preserved\, and what message they want to pass on to future generations. \nOur Living Record is supported by Southern Equality Studios\, a project of the Campaign for Southern Equality. Revolve Gallery is located at 821 Riverside Drive #179 in Asheville’s River Arts District. SUMMARY:41st Annual Grassy Creek Mineral and Gem Show
DESCRIPTION:The 41st Annual Grassy Creek Mineral and Gem Show will be held July 27 to August 3\, at 136 Majestic View in Spruce Pine. The show is sponsored by Parkway Rescue and Fire\, and hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The annual event enables Parkway Rescue and Fire to purchase new equipment for its stations. \nMore than 60 vendors from around the globe will be on hand offering gemstones\, minerals\, jewelry\, fossils\, quartz\, lapidary equipment\, and more. Some vendors will open earlier and stay later as they are camping in their booths. \nThe event is free and open to the public and all are welcome\, including well-behaved dogs on leash. Food will be available on-site\, and the event is also close to a variety of restaurants. Restrooms and showers will be available. \nThe show will be held on the hill above the fire station on Highway 226 in Spruce Pine. DESCRIPTION:Grammy and Academy Award winning duo The Swell Season are making a rare appearance in the Carolinas when they bring their prolific harmonies to the Peace Center on July 31.  \nThe acclaimed duo of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova came to prominence together starring in the 2007 film Once and winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song with “Falling Slowly.” The soundtrack garnered two Grammy nominations and the two christened their music project The Swell Season. \nIn 2012\, Once The Musical debuted and went on to win eight Tony Awards\, including Best Musical and a Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music.  \nAfter pursuing individual solo careers\, Hansard and Irglova have reunited to release Forward\, their first new album in 16 years. They are currently touring in Europe\, the UK\, Ireland and North America\, which includes a July 31 date at the Peace Center.
