SUMMARY:Our Living Record at Revolve Gallery
DESCRIPTION:A multimedia exhibit honoring queer and trans archives\, memory\, and resistance \nAsheville\, NC – Our Living Record\, a new exhibition from Southern Equality Studios – – the art program of The Campaign for Southern Equality\, on view starting July 10 through August 17\, 2025 at Revolve Gallery (821 Riverside Dr. Asheville\, NC 28801). This vibrant and deeply personal show features artwork from Southern LGBTQ+ community members and allies who explore preserving queer memory in the face of cultural erasure. \nThe exhibition includes photography\, sculpture\, projection\, ephemera\, and participatory archival interactive installations. Each piece reflects how personal objects\, imagery\, and memories connect to the broader story of LGBTQ+ resilience\, resistance\, and joy. \n“Queer and trans histories are often fragmented or excluded from dominant narratives\,” says curator Liz Williams. “Our Living Record asks: what happens when we tell our stories ourselves—through our photos\, our letters\, our zines\, our everyday rituals? This exhibition is a gathering of those fragments. A way to say: we were here\, we are here and we will sustain and remain.” \nFeatured artists include:\nLenny Kyriakoulis\, Kass Patterson \, Daniel Simone\, Crain Cutler\, Eduardo Moraes de Oliveira Barbosa\, Amanda Simons\, Lindsay Jones\, and Jeannie Regan \nThe exhibition also includes community-sourced materials\, family snapshots\, protest signs\, and objects from queer everyday life. An Archival Activation Event will take place on July 30\, featuring storytelling\, readings\, an interactive archive activation for WNC LGBTQIA+ Archive Project. \nArtists and community members were asked to submit personal photos\, letters\, or historical ephemera that could be projected onto them during their portrait session—creating an image that literally places history on the body. Each participant also sat for a filmed interview sharing why their items matter\, what stories need to be preserved\, and what message they want to pass on to future generations. \nOur Living Record is supported by Southern Equality Studios\, a project of the Campaign for Southern Equality. Revolve Gallery is located at 821 Riverside Drive #179 in Asheville’s River Arts District. Admission is free and open to the public during gallery hours. \nFor interviews\, press images\, or event information\, please contact Liz Williams at liz@southernequality.org.

SUMMARY:Bindings Art Exhibit with Randy Siegel at North Asheville Library
DESCRIPTION:Scraps of fabric\, rope\, string\, wire\, and thread\, along with obsessive stitching and often beading\, obscure and obstruct hidden aspects of self often too painful to acknowledge and to beautiful to ignore. With each wrap\, knot\, and stitch\, the creative process has been a mediation and ritual—a holy sacrament of confession\, absolution\, and integration as shadow aspects of self are brought to light\, acceptance\, and love.

SUMMARY:Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band w/ Ain't Sisters @ Third Room
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, August 8th 2025\nat Third Room (46 Wall Street\, Downtown Asheville)\nShow: 9PM (Doors: 8PM)\nTickets: $15-$25\n21+ \nYo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band: \nWEBSITE: https://bootyband.com \n“The only constant in life is change.” — Heraclitus of Ephesus (c. 535 BC – 475 BC) \nWe have some big news for all friends and fans of Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band! \nAs we enter into 2025\, the band will be approaching 23 years since it’s inception. We have travelled all over the US\, playing 49 out of 50 states and almost every major city on the map. We have recorded music that we are very proud of. We have played thousands of shows. We have made friends all across the planet that we still hold very dear to our hearts. We even managed to pick up a Grammy amidst all the craziness! \nTwo band members that have been instrumental in continuing the legacy of the Booty Band are Mary Frances aka “Mama Funk” and Lee Allen aka “Insta-Funk.” When we met them\, they played as a duo known as Eymarel. We fell in love with Lee and Mary as musicians and as friends. We often talked about how cool it would be to integrate them into the band. Then one day they moved to Asheville\, we had some changes in the lineup\, they joined the band\, and the rest is history. \nWe wouldn’t be what we are today without their contributions and it’s been a pleasure writing and performing music alongside these two for the last 15+ years. At this point\, Lee and Mary\, along with Booty Band saxophonist Jonathan Cole\, will be shifting their focus to their new amazing project ElectroLust. We fully support them in this endeavor and encourage all Booty Band fans to check out their new project\, as we have high hopes for this group. This doesn’t mean the end to collaborations between all of us. Be on the lookout for special guest sit in performances of some of the band’s (and fans’) favorite tunes at select shows. \nWhen one door closes\, another door opens! \nThat being said\, we have some very exciting additions to the band. We are proud to announce that we will be bringing back original Booty Band members Josh Phillips (vocals/guitar/percussion) and Greg “Gregbob” Hollowell (saxophones) along with the new addition of Patrick Armitage on drums. \nWe are super excited about this new/old lineup! Expect to hear some of the classic tunes from the early era\, expect to hear some brand new music\, expect more live shows and a whole new phase of that same great Funk music that we have been delivering for over two decades. \nBig shout out to all the friends\, family\, and fans that have supported our booties through thick and thin. Cheers to 23 years\, and many more to come!\n-JP Miller (guitarist and founding member) \nAin’t Sisters:\nWEBSITE: https://theaintsisters.com\nHEAR SOME MUSIC: https://theaintsisters.com/electronic-press-kit-epk\nSEE A VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWxbQoWiCw8 \nFun\, eclectic folk rock. Fronted by the deliciously androgynous duo Arrie Bozeman and Barb Carbon\, the Aints deliver high-energy performances of their wildly diverse original music. Joined by the hardest working men in rock n Roll\, Richie Jones on the Boom Chick thwackita whackita\, and Justin Boudreau\, aka BooDreamy\, masterfully holding down the rhythm section and making everybody swoon with their gorgeous licks. Think Indigo Girls meets Dream Theater but with a little Birdcloud in the mix. \nIf ya ain’t sisters\, what are ya? \n“These girls need to be our damn house band!”\n– Blondie Strange\, The Clermont Lounge \n“They have stirred up this old songwriter something fierce!”\n– Ralph Roddenbery \n“Wicked Indie Rock!” – Scott Hopkins\, Music Fest News \n“Transcends the borders of alt-country.” – The Vinyl District
