MountainTrue staff and volunteers spend significant time and resources removing nonnative invasive plants along streams and lake shorelines to protect water quality and ensure that the native vegetation stays healthy. \nPlants that are found here inspire a “sense of place” and pride in our mountain communities and promote wise stewardship and conservation of natural resources. DESCRIPTION:If you’ve ever collected small\, perfectly smooth pebbles and wondered what to do with them\, this two-day workshop is the perfect solution! Using diamond encrusted drill bits\, students will drill through these materials and then fabricate sterling silver wire and sheet to create stunning jewelry which may include pendants\, earrings\, rings and bracelets. Students will also learn about the soldering process\, bezel and prong setting and a small amount of forging. \nNo experience is necessary but good eyesight or magnification is a must. \nStudents are asked to bring:\nSmall pebbles\, ceramic shards\, shells and sea glass if they have any (the instructor will bring some for their use as well)\nNotebook and pen/pencil\nUltra fine tipped Sharpie pen\n$399 plus materials\nA materials list for students to purchase will be provided upon registration.

DESCRIPTION:Asheville locals look forward to the annual Scouting America Scout Troop 17 barbecue dinner fundraiser. The event\, set for Saturday\, October 11\, 2025\, offers tender\, juicy Western North Carolina smoked BBQ dinners with all the fixin’s. Take out dinners will be served behind the Riceville Fire Department and Community Center\, 2251 Riceville Road\, Asheville\, NC\, 11:00AM – 4:00PM or while supplies last. Outside Creekside picnic tables are available for dining. \nPitmasters smoke premium North Carolina pork shoulders throughout the night prior to the event. Dinners include a generous portion of tender\, juicy BBQ pork\, homemade BBQ sauce\, home baked beans\, North Carolina BBQ slaw and a southern roll. \nThe charge for BBQ dinner plates will be $12.00. Reservations are not required. Creekside Picnic Tables available for all. Additional donations to benefit the Scouts are always appreciated. \n“Local Scouting America Packs and Troops raise funds to provide support for Scouts in their service area\,” said Committee Chairman Dan Little. “Funds are used to provide assistance for Scouts from economically challenged communities by sending scouts to summer camp\, providing scouting handbooks\, uniforms and paying for the national Scouting America annual recharter fee. Raised funds are also used to purchase flags for our veterans’ graves.” \nOn Memorial Day\, Independence Day and Veterans Day\, Scout Troop 17 honors our deceased veterans at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery by placing United States flags on their graves. \nIf you have a youth between kindergarten and 18 years that would be interested in Scouts\, there will be a Scouting America representative at the BBQ event to provide information on membership. \nScouts Serving Others: Since 1910\, over 4\,000 young men in Western North Carolina have earned the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. Through their Eagle Scout service projects\, thousands of community service hours have been conducted to benefit our communities. Scouts in Western North Carolina will perform over 40\,000 hours of community service in 2025.
