SUMMARY:Craft-itarianism: Community Action Through Craft
DESCRIPTION:The word craft-itarianism was coined by 2026 Center for Craft Curatorial Fellow Alyssa Velazquez to name artistic projects that generate employment\, raise awareness\, or offer therapeutic support through craft. These programs provide a space where people affected by addiction\, incarceration\, and gun violence can find solidarity while learning a skill. \nCraft-itarianism: Community Action Through Craft celebrates nonprofits and artists who believe in—and actively practice—the power of craft to support and empower individuals and communities. \nThis exhibition was curated by 2026 Center for Craft Curatorial Fellow Alyssa Velazquez. Launched in 2017\, the Curatorial Fellowship supports emerging curators exploring new ideas about craft with mentorship\, professional development\, and a $5\,000 honorarium to realize an exhibition. \nOn view February 27\, 2026–September 27\, 2026

SUMMARY:Footloose
DESCRIPTION:This musical doesn’t just dance\, it dazzles! Set to the anthems that defined a generation — “Holding Out for a Hero\,” “Let’s Hear It for the Boy\,” “Almost Paradise\,” and of course “Footloose” — this show is sure to kick off an electrifying summer. \n	Dancing is not a crime…except in Bomont\, Texas. Then Ren McCormack rolls in\, all city swagger\, restless energy\, and a heartbeat too loud to ignore\, which catches the eye of the preacher’s daughter with a wild streak of her own.\n When Ren’s beat hits\, the quiet cracks\, the pulse quickens\, and the town just can’t stand still. What begins as rebellion becomes revival\, grief gives way to groove\, and a community reclaims its rhythm.\n	The band’s on fire\, the kicks are higher\, now you gotta cut loose! Catch Footloose at the Flat Rock Playhouse June 12-July 5.

SUMMARY:Photoshop Layers Made Easy! Two-Part Series
DESCRIPTION:Session One: The Mystery of “Layers” — a challenge for many who want to learn to use Adobe Photoshop! In reality\, layers are a great tool and easy to use\, plus they give you a wide range of adjustments to perfect your photographs!  This 2 part\, six-hour workshop will teach how to 1) choose and create “adjustment layers\,” 2) create masks to modify layers\, 3) add selected filters\, and 4) handle the layers in general. As we progress through the information\, you will follow along on your computer using the instructor’s sample images\, then work with your own. You will also receive an informative PDF handout containing key information that you learn in the class. NOTE: You may attend Session One only.\nSession Two: (You must have attended Session One to take part in this session): We’ll review Session One’s material — The Mystery of “Layers” — then view your sample images\, including your process using layers in Photoshop. Your images must be TIFF images. This will be a gentle session to review and reinforce your understanding of using layers.\nBring your laptop computer with Photoshop installed (you can get a trial copy if you don’t already own it.) Also\, have with you images that you would like to work on should be either RAW or TIFF (no JPEGs!).

SUMMARY:Call for Artists - Where the Land Remembers: Farming in Old Fort
DESCRIPTION:This show centers on the idea that land isn’t just used—it holds memory. The land is a living archive—every field\, fence line\, and hillside carries traces of past hands\, seasons\, and stories. \nExhibit runs from June 27 – July 29 \nARTISTS!\nPlease apply. Create a piece that reflects our relationship to the land — whether inherited\, worked\, remembered\, or imagined. Consider what the land holds that cannot be seen at first glance — cycles of work and seasons\, hands that shape the land\, the land as witness\, boundaries and belonging\, and echoes of the past and seeds of the future. \nFor more details: https://arrowheadart.org/call-for-artists/call-for-artists-where-the-land-remembers \nCurator: Becky Aldridge (828-803-8315)* \nEntry Intake: June 25 from 1:00 – 6:00 pm \nArtwork Hung: June 26 \nArtist Reception: June 27 from 4:00 – 6:00pm \nExhibit Dates: June 27 – July 26 \nEntry Pickup: July 29 (during gallery hours)

Led by Asheville-based internationally recognized violinist and educator Christian Howes\, the program runs June 22–July 3 and welcomes 40 violin\, viola\, cello\, and string players for an immersive experience of clinics\, rehearsals\, masterclasses\, and creative workshops. \nThe Creative Strings Showcase features more than 20 talented workshop musicians performing solos and ensemble works for violin\, viola\, and cello. In 2017 Howes brought a smaller version of the event home to the Asheville area\, where he’s lived since 2015. The smaller version of the event invites up to 20 participants. Said Howes\, “I look forward to building the festival and workshop components of this event over the next few years in ways that will serve the local community”. \nThursday\, June 25th – We want everyone to access the healing power of music! Perhaps you can only afford a few dollars or maybe you have resources to cover the cost for others. Pay What You Can! You may enter your desired donation amount below.
