SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen | Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers
DESCRIPTION:Two hundred years after its opening and a century after acquiring its first Van Gogh artworks\, the National Gallery\, London is hosting the United Kingdom’s biggest ever Van Gogh exhibition. Van Gogh is not only one of the most beloved artists of all time\, but perhaps the most misunderstood. \nThis film is a chance to reexamine and better understand this iconic artist. Focusing on his unique creative process\, “Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers” explores the artist’s years in the south of France\, where he revolutionized his style. Van Gogh became consumed with a passion for storytelling in his art\, turning the world around him into vibrant\, idealized spaces and symbolic characters. \nPoets and lovers filled his imagination; everything he did in the south of France served this new obsession. In part\, this is what caused his notorious breakdown\, but it didn’t hold back his creativity as he created masterpiece after masterpiece. Explore one of art history’s most pivotal periods in this once-in-a-century show. Made in close collaboration with the National Gallery.

SUMMARY:The Art of Wellbeing: Therapeutic Art Making in the Museum
DESCRIPTION:Art has the power to heal\, restore\, and reconnect us to what matters most. Join us at the Asheville Art Museum for a guided art-making session led by a registered art therapist\, designed to explore how art can be a tool to nurture your mental and emotional wellbeing. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or have never picked up a paintbrush\, come as you are and leave feeling refreshed. Join Alexis for sessions on August 15\, September 19\, and December 19. \nDr. C. Alexis Decosimo is a licensed mental health clinician\, registered art therapist\, and Doctor of Public Health. She specializes in helping children\, families\, and individuals access healing through blending therapeutic artmaking and evidence-based approaches including EMDR\, cognitive behavioral therapy\, and person-centered approaches.\nShe believes in meeting clients where they are\, drawing on creative modalities to open pathways to healing that talk therapy alone may not reach. Her clinical work is deeply informed by over a decade of international experience building mental health programs in some of the world’s most under-resourced settings\, giving her a grounded\, adaptive\, and culturally sensitive approach to care.\nIn her Asheville practice\, she brings that same commitment to accessible\, ethical\, and community-rooted mental health support to help clients process trauma\, build resilience\, and find their footing through the power of expressive therapy. SUMMARY:The Art of Presence: Meditation and Reflection in the Museum
DESCRIPTION:Step into the Museum’s galleries before the doors open for a quiet and contemplative morning of meditation\, mindful walking\, and reflection. This guided experience invites participants to slow down\, settle the nervous system\, and explore the Museum as a place of sanctuary\, spaciousness\, and renewal. \nThe session will begin with a brief seated meditation\, followed by a walking meditation through selected exhibits. Along the way\, participants will pause with gentle mindfulness prompts designed to support personal reflection\, embodied awareness\, and a deeper connection with the artwork. Rather than offering art historical interpretation\, the experience encourages each participant to notice what arises within them through presence\, stillness\, and mindful seeing. The group will honor noble silence throughout much of the session with occasional opportunities for brief reflection and sharing. No previous meditation experience is needed. \nJoin Joshua on 8/22\, 10/3\, 11/7\, and 12/5. \nJoshua Canter is a mindfulness meditation teacher and the founder of True Nature Travels and Education\, an Asheville-based organization that has offered transformative retreats and educational experiences around the world for more than 20 years. He holds a master’s degree in Contemplative Psychology and is passionate about making mindfulness accessible\, grounded\, and relevant to everyday life.

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen | The Danish Collector: Delacroix to Gauguin
DESCRIPTION:For many years no-one was interested in the art of the Impressionists. Artists like Monet\, Degas and Renoir were vilified\, attacked\, and left penniless as a result. Then\, something remarkable happened. A new breed of collectors emerged and\, before long\, they were battling to acquire any work by these new\, radical artists that they could find. Amongst them was the visionary Danish businessman Wilhelm Hansen. It was an extraordinary moment in art history; full of drama\, intrigue and subterfuge. Some collectors we may recognize and some we may not\, but Hansen amassed a remarkable collection housed at his summer home\, Ordrupgaard\, on the outskirts of Copenhagen. Exhibition on Screen tells his fascinating story and\, with exclusive access to a sell- out exhibition at London’s Royal Academy\, brings the extraordinary collection to the big-screen in glorious high-definition. From Hansen’s beautiful house and gardens at Ordrupgaard to the streets of bohemian Paris\, this film takes you on a journey to discover some of the best examples of 19th-century French art ever collected.
