Focusing on his unique creative process\, “Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers” explores the artist’s years in the south of France\, where he revolutionized his style. Van Gogh became consumed with a passion for storytelling in his art\, turning the world around him into vibrant\, idealized spaces and symbolic characters. \nPoets and lovers filled his imagination; everything he did in the south of France served this new obsession. In part\, this is what caused his notorious breakdown\, but it didn’t hold back his creativity as he created masterpiece after masterpiece. Alexis Decosimo is a licensed mental health clinician\, registered art therapist\, and Doctor of Public Health. DESCRIPTION:Every Third Thursday\, the Museum comes alive with an evening filled with music\, tours\, art making\, special cocktails in our rooftop café\, and more! \nEnjoy live music from the Jason DeCristofaro Jazz Trio featuring Jason DeCristofaro (vibraphone)\, Kevin Kehrberg (bass) and Andy Applegate (drums).  For this performance\, the trio will be performing special Christmas and holiday selections.   \nDr. Jason DeCristofaro an active music educator\, multi-instrumentalist and composer/arranger based in Asheville\, NC.  He is an Assistant Professor of Music and the Chair of the Music Department at Warren Wilson College\, where he also acts as Director of the Kittredge Arts Center.  Jason’s classical and jazz music has been performed internationally and throughout the United States\, and his compositions are published with C. Alan\, Per-Mus and Tapspace.   The winner of the 2011 Yamaha/Percussive Arts Society Terry Gibbs Competition (an international competition for jazz vibraphonists)\, Jason has performed on national and global stages with Randy Brecker\, Dr. Sam Waymon (Nina Simone’s brother)\, Jocelyn Gould\, and Sharel Cassity.

The group will honor noble silence throughout much of the session with occasional opportunities for brief reflection and sharing. SUMMARY:Southern Culture on the Skids
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY\nSOUTHERN CULTURE ON THE SKIDS \nSouthern Culture On The Skids has been consistently recording and touring around the world since 1983. The band (Rick Miller – guitar and vocals\, Mary Huff – bass and vocals\, Dave Hartman – drums) has been playing together for over 30 years. Their musical journey has taken them from all-night North Carolina house parties to late night TV talk shows (Conan O’Brien\, The Tonight Show)\, from performing at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan to rockin’ out for the inmates at North Carolina correctional facilities. They’ve shared a stage with many musical luminaries including Link Wray\, Loretta Lynn\, Hasil Adkins and Patti Smith. Their music has been featured in movies and TV\, parodied by Weird Al\, and used to sell everything from diamonds to pork sausage. In 2014 the band was honored by the Southern Folklife Collection at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with an exhibition featuring their music and cultural contributions. Their legendary live shows are a testament to the therapeutic powers of foot-stomping\, butt-shaking rock and roll and what Rolling Stone dubbed “a hell raising rock and roll party.” \nAt Home with Southern Culture on the Skids is the latest full length album from the band and was released in March of 2021. It was recorded during the stay at home period of the pandemic when the band was at home and not touring. The album consists of 11 tracks recorded and mixed in Rick Miller’s living room with some additional tracks recorded at his studio\, The Kudzu Ranch. \nThe first radio single off the album is “Run Baby Run”—a rocking number with deep garage roots. SCOTS bassist Mary Huff provides an urgent vocal while the band pulls back the throttle on a full race fuzz fest—cause she’s gotta to go fast! Run Baby Run! \nThe other songs on the album are a combination of the band’s unique mix of musical genres: rock and roll\, surf\, folk and country—all a bit off-center\, what Rick proudly calls “our wobbly Americana”. Rick goes on\, “We put a few more acoustic guitars on this one\, as you would expect if you recorded in your living room\, but it still rocks like SCOTS. So put your headphones on\, get in your favorite chair/sofa/recliner\, put on “At Home With” and let’s hang out for a while.”

DESCRIPTION:A New York City native\, Koh Kazama is a concert guitarist and educator exposing audiences to the endless possibilities of the classical guitar. He started his guitar studies at the age of six\, after being inspired by a Japanese rock musician. His diverse repertoire ranges from early music played on period instruments to contemporary music using electronic effects. \nCarnegie Hall · Symphony Space · Webster Hall · Morse Hall at Juilliard. \nDr. Kazama has performed in renowned venues\, festivals\, and concert series\, including Carnegie Hall\, Miami International GuitART Festival\, Long Island Guitar Festival\, Killington Music Festival\, Symphony Space\, Webster Hall\, WNYC New Sounds Live series\, Morse Hall (Juilliard)\, Mid-Hudson Classical Guitar Society\, and Yale Guitar Extravaganza. Recent highlights include concerts with Grammy-nominated ensemble Seraphic Fire\, a solo concert tour in Japan\, and performing as the featured artist at Killington Music Festival’s season finale chamber music concert. He has also premiered works by a wide range of prominent composers\, including Michael White (Juilliard)\, David Lang (Yale)\, William Anderson (Queens College)\, Paula Matthusen (Wesleyan)\, and Kendall Williams. \nDr. Kazama holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stony Brook University\, where he was a scholarship student and teaching assistant of the guitar department. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in psychology\, Master of Music\, and Artist Diploma at Yale University. He received a full scholarship to attend Yale\, and he was the recipient of the Eliot Fisk Prize\, which was awarded to an outstanding guitarist whose artistic achievements and dedication have contributed greatly to the department. He attended LaGuardia Arts High School in New York City\, where he majored in cello and was part of the LaGuardia Symphony Orchestra. His major teachers have included Jerry Willard\, Benjamin Verdery\, Simon Powis\, Liam Wood\, Nadav Lev\, and David Gonzalez. \nDr. Kazama is also a dedicated teacher who has experience teaching guitar to students of various levels and ages. He is currently on the faculty at New World School of the Arts\, a partner of Miami Dade College\, University of Florida\, and Dade County Public Schools in Miami. He has previously taught as a guitar instructor at Yale University and Stony Brook University. He is also a former faculty member and alumnus of Third Street Music School Settlement\, the longest-running community music school in the United States. He is also the director of GuitarFest at New World School of the Arts\, an annual event of workshops\, masterclasses\, and performances for the Miami community. \nIn addition to his teaching and performing\, Dr. Kazama has contributed publications and learning resources to the guitar community. He co-founded Monologue Publications\, which is dedicated to creating solo and chamber music arrangements for guitar that include thoroughly researched historical and stylistic information for the player. He is also the co-founder of Leyenda\, an online graded classical guitar database.

DESCRIPTION:Visitors are invited to print their own keepsakes with Jessica on her vintage letterpress presses\, each printed on sheets of handmade paper.  \nJessica White grew up in Taiwan and spent her childhood transported by storybooks and fairytales. Following a career in academics as the Professor of Printmaking and Chair of the Art Department at Warren Wilson College\, she is now a studio artist in Asheville\, NC\, where she makes prints\, books\, and crankies. Her work has been exhibited internationally and can be seen in public collections including Yale University\, Stanford University\, Lingnan University Hong Kong\, and the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the co-founder of Ladies of Letterpress\, a member of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild\, President of the Wood Engravers Network\, and is the founder and lead organizer for the Asheville Zine Fest and Asheville Crankie Fest. Fancy degrees she holds include a BFA in sculpture from East Carolina University\, an MA and MFA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa\, and a Graduate Certificate in Book Arts from the UIowa Center for the Book. When she’s not getting inky in the studio\, you can find her catching a breeze in her sailboat Sweet Pea.
