DESCRIPTION:On view from March 15\, 2024 through February 28\, 2025\, ‘sov·er·eign·ty: Expressions in Sovereignty of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians’ illuminates the complexities of tribal sovereignty and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians’ continuing legacy of resilience.\nFeaturing objects sourced from the Museum of the Cherokee People’s own collections\, ‘sov·er·eign·ty’ is designed to educate visitors about the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians’ autonomy\, its relationship with the federal government\, and how the tribe has defined its own relationship with its land\, people\, and culture. \nThe Museum of the Cherokee People is the tribal museum of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI)\, one of three federally recognized Cherokee tribes alongside Cherokee Nation and the United Keetowah Band of Cherokee Indians. The EBCI is a self-governed\, autonomous nation with over 16\,000 enrolled members living around the world—it has its own laws\, elections\, and government—and is the only federally recognized Tribal Nation within the boundaries of what is currently known as North Carolina.  \nIn this exhibition\, visitors will learn how\, through adaptability and innovation\, the EBCI has combated attempts to eradicate\, remove\, and assimilate its people and remained on the Qualla Boundary—57\,000 acres (0.00067661% of the original Cherokee territory) which is owned by the EBCI and held in trust by the federal government.

DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth Holden Gallery’s exhibition The Wondrous World Of Hobey Ford’s Golden Rod Puppets featuring the work of master puppeteer Hobey Ford will be on view at Warren Wilson College from January 23rd to March 7th\, 2025.  \nWarren Wilson’s Art Department is excited to host an exhibition of rod\, foam\, and shadow puppets by the award winning puppeteer\, Hobey Ford. On display will be characters\, stories and set pieces from a range of tales from Ford’s previous shows including a few puppets from friend and mentor Clyde Hollifield. This exhibition will explore how puppetry can engage the imagination of audiences of all ages\, while sharing the process of puppet construction and showcasing Ford’s contributions to the craft.  \nWinner of the UNIMA Citation for Excellence and 3 Jim Henson Foundation grants\, Hobey Ford is known for his excellence in puppetry performance and craft and his skill as a master storyteller. Hobey utilizes his artistic studies from the State University of New York and UNCA to design and construct all of his Golden Rod puppets. His performances present puppetry styles and tales from around the world and feature puppetry styles he has created such as the Peepers hand puppets and his well-loved “Foamies” puppets made from large blocks of foam with inventive mechanisms to create life-like movements. Hobey tours internationally and trains teachers through his involvement with the Kennedy Center of the Northwest Film Forum.  \nThe exhibition opening reception is on January 23rd  from 4:30 – 6:00 PM.  The Elizabeth Holden Gallery is open M-F\, 10- 4pm and Saturdays 1-4pm.

He quickly became a Midwest favorite\, placing 2nd in the 2016 Cleveland Comedy Festival\, winning the 2017 Funniest Person in Wichita\, and was featured on season 8 of Comcast’s Trial by Laughter. \nAaron has performed at some of the best comedy festivals in the country\, including San Francisco Sketchfest\, Limestone\, Asheville\, and 10\,000 Laughs. He has also shared the stage with comedians like Todd Barry\, Sam Tallent\, and Ron Funches. His comedy has been featured on Comcast\, Comedy Juice\, and the whole entire internet. \nIn 2021\, Aaron was named the Funniest Person in Kansas City by KC Magazine\, while also co-founding the Fountain City Comedy Festival. DESCRIPTION:The Art League is proud to present “The Art of Fiber and Textiles\,” an exhibition that showcases the innovative spirit and enduring traditions of these versatile mediums. The Art League has invited artists from Local Cloth to participate in this special exhibit giving our community an opportunity to view a wide variety of material and design. The Art League was fortunate to escape significant damage from Hurricane Helene\, but Local Cloth was almost completely destroyed by flood waters and debris\, which knocked out their front door and windows and rose inside the walls to more than 10 feet. \n    The exhibit will run from February 1\, 2025 to February 21\, 2025 at The Art Place gallery\, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of ancient traditions and contemporary artistry.  An opening reception will provide an opportunity for visitors to meet the artists on February 1\, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. \n    The exhibition aims to highlight works rooted in traditional fiber materials\, structures\, processes\, and history\, while also celebrating pieces that push the boundaries of fiber art by exploring unexpected relationships with other creative disciplines. DESCRIPTION:Take an Express Tour of our galleries\, then go on an adventure with art\, music\, or storytelling in the Museum’s interactive Art PLAYce. For children ages 0-5 years old and their families or caregivers. \nTours will meet in the Museum Atrium and begin at 11:30am. Please arrive no later than 11:25 to allow enough time to check-in. \nStrollers are welcome\, and we will have a limited number of strollers available on site for visitor usage. \nVisitors are invited to spend more time exploring Art PLAYce\, our galleries\, and Perspective Cafe after Tot Time concludes at 12:30pm.

Originally from Hagerstown\, MD\, he began his career in Boston while attending Emerson College. He moved to Nashville in January of 2021 after 8 years of honing his craft in NYC. In October of 2021\, Will was voted the third best comic in Nashville by readers of the Nashville Scene.\nIn December of 2017\, Will’s self-produced debut comedy album “Regrets of My Father” debuted at #1 on the iTunes Comedy Charts. Following the success of his album\, Will was featured in festivals all across the East Coast including the Wiz City Comedy Festival in Philadelphia\, WOOtenanny in Worcester\, the Baltimore Comedy Festival\, the Portland Maine Comedy Festival\, the Charm City Comedy Festival and the North Carolina Comedy Festival.
