SUMMARY:Metalsmithing 101: The Basics Intensive SEPT 13th and 14th
DESCRIPTION:Want to learn to make jewelry? This beginner friendly introductory metalsmithing course teaches the basics skills involved in making your own jewelry. Learn to use a variety of tools and equipment common in a jewelry studio. \nThis Intensive 16 hour 2 day workshop will teach many techniques including sawing\, filing\, polishing\, soldering\, bezel setting\, textures\, and more! $499 plus a $55 materials fee (paid separate at class) \nClass Times: Saturday Sept 13th 9-5 and Sunday Sept 14th 9-5 \nStudents will also have access to 4 Open Studio sessions through the following 4 weeks to practice their skills. A knowledgeable instructor is present during these sessions for questions and safety. Wednesdays 10-4pm (These are only valid the 4 weeks following the class and do not carry over) \nPlease know this will be a substantial amount of information over the two days and the intensity may not be ideal for everyone. Some jewelry making knowledge may be beneficial\, but is not required. The course is designed to teach the skills through a series of jewelry pieces. \nThe course is designed to teach techniques and skills rather than completing actual aesthetically pleasing pieces\, but the goal is that everyone can complete 2-3 pieces of finished jewelry or more. Attending some or all Open Studios will absolutely ensure this and likely many more pieces.

SUMMARY:Hemlock Hike at Gorges State Park
DESCRIPTION:Join the Hemlock Restoration Initiative for an educational hike at 10 a.m. on Sunday\, September 14th at one of North Carolina’s hidden gems: Gorges State Park. This rugged park features waterfalls\, sheer rock walls\, many miles of trails\, and a diverse collection of flora and fauna. \nOur 2.8 mile (total) out and back hike will explore only a small section of the park\, but includes a dense patch of hemlocks crowded around a tranquil stream before climbing to a ridge that exhibits an entirely different environment than the trail’s streamside beginnings. There are a few steep sections\, but this hike is only of moderate difficulty as it follows old logging roads and has less than 500 feet of total elevation gain. \nWe will start out by exploring the streamside area and its many hemlocks\, diving into details on hemlocks and their conservation. We will then head up the Auger Hole and Heath Pine Ridge trails. \nGorges State Park is located about 5 miles southwest of Rosman\, NC and is near the NC-SC border. \nThe back-up weather date for this hike will be on September 21st at 10:00am. \nFor any questions\, contact Olivia Hall at education@savehemlocksnc.org or 828-252-4783. While the hike is free to attend\, your RSVP is required\, and space is limited. Please sign up by Wednesday\, September 10th by filling out the form linked on the event webpage. More details about meeting location and what to bring will be provided upon registration.

SUMMARY:LaMP - Lawton • Metzger • Paczkowski @ Third Room
DESCRIPTION:WHERE: Third Room\nWHEN: Wednesday\, September 17\, 2025\nDOORS: 7pm SHOW: 8pm\nGENRE: instrumental jam/rock‑fusion\nTICKETS: $20 ga \nPURCHASE: https://tixr.com/e/149147 \nLaMP:\nWEBSITE: www.ilikelamp.com\nHEAR SOME MUSIC: https://lampband.bandcamp.com\nSEE A VIDEO: https://youtu.be/xowS03Q1dak?si=WEpURQZ2RTeUjoPf \nOn a magical night at Nectar’s in Burlington\, Vermont in December of 2018\, three musical masters—Russ Lawton\, Scott Metzger and Ray Paczkowski—came together with alchemical synthesis\, and created a fresh\, so-tight-it’s-free sound\, permeated with technical prowess and a deep-pocket punch. The packed house fortunate enough to be in attendance that night witnessed the birth of something very special. The following spring\, the trio took the name LaMP by combining the first letters of each members’ surname\, and reconvened back in Vermont at Sugarhouse Soundworks for an intense recording session with sound engineer Roger Stauss laying down tracks that would become their eponymous debut EP. \nMetzger\, described by The Village Voice as “…an ace guitarist of a thousand styles\,” and a full-time member of the beloved Joe Russo’s Almost Dead\, tested the decades-strong synergy between Lawton and Paczkowski forged from their time playing with Trey Anastasio Band and their duo project Soule Monde. It resulted in seven tracks crackling with energy and soul. The melodic and harmonic interplay between Paczkowski’s swirling organ and clavinet dancing with Metzger’s acrobatic melodies on telecaster\, driven by Lawton’s unflappable backbeat\, produced a record that will stand the test of time. Ever since—as the three members busy schedules have allowed—LaMP has prioritized bringing the music to the people with shows across the East Coast. As word has spread and the crowds have grown with each subsequent tour\, it’s become clear that LaMP will be a musical force to be reckoned with for the foreseeable future.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Archives in Practice
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of our new exhibition\, “Archives in Practice.” \nArchives can be a link to the past while reflecting the present. They often take the form of objects\, memories\, or contemplations from histories. \nArchives in Practice features eight artists whose work is influenced by archival research. Drawing from personal\, familial\, and public collections\, cultural heritage\, and various reference materials\, their work communicates the diversity of what an archive can be and how artists can activate them to retell histories that might otherwise be lost\, hidden\, or erased. Collectively\, these artists illustrate the interconnectedness of the past\, the individual\, and the present—revealing the importance of connecting to one’s diaspora and community\, building representation of histories\, and conducting object research. \nThis exhibition also demonstrates the expansive quality of craft research. The artists’ work embodies themes of identity within historical contexts and through personal explorations. It engages with social issues and prompts important questions about the significance and impact of objects\, photographs\, and the intangible on everyday material practices. \nThe featured artists are Jacqueline Bishop\, N.E. Brown\, Ruth Hallows\, Margaret Jacobs\, Hùng Lê\, Aaron McIntosh\, and Ruth Tamura & Helen Lee. \nSeven of these artists are alumni of the Center for Craft. Two of the artworks on display—Gisma̱xsa G̱a̱tgyedm Na Sigidmhanaa’na̱gm\, Our Matriarchs Endow Our Strength by Ruth Hallows\, and Sojourner Truth Ain’t I A Lady by Jacqueline Bishop—are the direct result of research funded by Center for Craft grants and fellowship programs. \nLearn more: https://www.centerforcraft.org/exhib…/archives-in-practice \nImage credit: Ruth Tamura and Helen Lee\, “GEN 二 \,” 2025\, glass\, sand\, 7 x 7 x 1 ft.
