SUMMARY:Craft-itarianism: Community Action Through Craft
DESCRIPTION:The word craft-itarianism was coined by 2026 Center for Craft Curatorial Fellow Alyssa Velazquez to name artistic projects that generate employment\, raise awareness\, or offer therapeutic support through craft. These programs provide a space where people affected by addiction\, incarceration\, and gun violence can find solidarity while learning a skill. \nCraft-itarianism: Community Action Through Craft celebrates nonprofits and artists who believe in—and actively practice—the power of craft to support and empower individuals and communities. \nThis exhibition was curated by 2026 Center for Craft Curatorial Fellow Alyssa Velazquez. Launched in 2017\, the Curatorial Fellowship supports emerging curators exploring new ideas about craft with mentorship\, professional development\, and a $5\,000 honorarium to realize an exhibition. \nOn view February 27\, 2026–September 27\, 2026

SUMMARY:PATIO SHOW: The Nature Boys
DESCRIPTION:– LIMITED PATIO SEATING IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE \nTHE NATURE BOYS \nHailing from the Appalachian musical stronghold of Asheville\, NC\, The Nature Boys are coming in hot with their brand of bluegrass. As veterans of the acoustic music scene\, they are combining a deep love of traditional string band music with a refreshing catalog of original songs\, dazzling fans with a certain je ne sais quoi that is both genuine and relatable. Formed in the summer of 2025\, long time friends Jack\, Jesse\, and Nick found themselves once again living in the same town and ready to start a new musical project. These three had spent years touring across the world\, often but not always in the same group. With a shared love of music\, humor\, and brotherhood\, The Nature Boys was born in a way that can only be described as natural. Soon after getting the wheels rolling\, they enlisted Asheville aces Coop and Korey\, now forming one of Asheville’s premier 5-piece bluegrass bands\, The Nature Boys. The band is currently performing regionally and is recording their debut album\, to be released in late 2026. \nHappens on the following Dates:\nJul 11\, 2026\, 4:00pm to 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)\nAug 1\, 2026\, 4:00pm to 6:00pm Timezone: Eastern Time (US & Canada)

SUMMARY:RENT - Flat Rock Playhouse - 7/24-8/15
DESCRIPTION:Thirty years ago\, RENT ignited Broadway like a lightning bolt — a raw\, raucous\, Pulitzer Prize–winning love letter that gave voice to the misfits\, the rebels\, the ones who loved without permission. Three decades later\, its fire still burns. \nIn the East Village\, a patchwork of outsiders fight to create and survive in a city that’s forgotten them. They turn struggle into art and fear into defiance. Through loss\, love\, and the noise of the city\, they find strength together in the face of adversity. \nBased on Puccini’s masterpiece\, La Bohème\, and fueled by its electric rock score and unflinching humanity\, RENT is one of the most influential musicals of the 20th century\, reimagined this season with the bold artistry of Flat Rock Playhouse. Join the revolution. No Day But Today. \nEvent Times: 2:00 PM & 7:30 PM

CANCELLATIONS MADE WITHIN 30 DAYS WILL BE ISSUED A 50% REFUND. \nClass size limited to 6 \nARTIST BIO: \nAnne Strutz\, PSA\, IAPS-MC annestrutzfineart.com\nAnne Strutz is an artist in motion\, pushing boundaries by infusing movement and energy into her paintings. For Anne painting begins with what you cannot see. She poses questions to herself before starting a painting. What is drawing me to this subject? What is the story I want to tell? What am I trying to express in each painting? No single mark is precious. No fear is allowed to enter the process behind the easel. All elements of the composition must work in unity. This process is critical for infusing energy into my work and allows me to respond directly to the piece as it evolves. \nAnne’s journey as an artist has been a fulfilling adventure\, leading her from fashion and textile designer in NYC\, to teaching and developing art curricula for children in Philadelphia and Chicago. In 2013 Anne turned her focus to fine art. After viewing a pastel exhibition at the Noyse Museum of Art in Hammonton N.J. Anne began her journey with the pastel medium. The tangible aspects of the medium\, with the ability to draw\, paint\, layer\, and combine with other mediums has led her on an energetic journey pushing the qualities of pastel in her work. Anne’s work has been featured in the Pastel Journal multiple times\, Pratique Des Arts and Strokes of Genius and the 2022 and 2024 IAPS Souvenir Book. She has written multiple articles for the Pastel Journal and Artist Magazine. Anne is the past president and workshop chair of the Piedmont Pastel Society. In 2019 she participated in the Dueling Demonstration event at the International Association of Pastel Societies convention which occurs every two years. In 2022 and 2024 Anne was invited back to be one of the faculty artists to demonstrate her techniques at the convention. Anne holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and currently lives in Pickens\, South Carolina.

SUMMARY:PATIO SHOW: Beth Lee\, Kevin Smith & Miriam Allen
DESCRIPTION:– LIMITED PATIO SEATING IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE \nBETH LEE\, KEVIN SMITH & MIRIAM ALLEN \nBeth Lee is a bluegrass and Americana artist rooted in the traditions of the genre and driven by a deep passion for lyrical storytelling. Inspired by her roots in the Hill Country of Austin\, Texas and her home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina\, her sense of place is woven into every lyric. Songs that invite the listener on a journey — to be taken away by a story\, or simply reminded of the human highway we’re all sharing. \nIn a city where the song writers are committed to authenticity\, Kevin Smith is a beacon and mentor for exactly that. His voice is of a man who emerged from the mountains hell bent on crafting songs that are true to his life and relevant to ours. At AVLfest in 2024\, a song writer from Nashville told Fiddle Man that he drove six hours to see Planefolk just to get back to the emotional roots of songwriting that can get lost in production houses of Nashville. We all need to get back to the core of our humanity\, Kevin helps us get there. \nMulti-instrumentalist Miriam Allen has spent hundreds of days & nights alone in remote Appalachian coves swimming & writing songs in her anchored sailboat. Curious about other cultures & nature\, she is a lifelong outdoor adventurer\, backpacker\, naturalist\, & activist for humanitarian & conservation efforts. Her songs are emotionally charged & give a voice to those who often don’t have one: wild spaces\, wounded souls & playful humans alike. From rowdy & gritty to soothing & heartfelt; Miriam’s songs are pure passion.

SUMMARY:Robin Plemmons: Throbbin'
DESCRIPTION:Asheville artist and comedian Robin Plemmons is back for another round of holleration. Her third one-woman show here at the Grey Eagle is called THROBBIN and she’ll be in her sweet spot- oversharing the hell out of her life: like living with Crohn’s disease\, getting through 8 butthole surgeries\, being married to an Appalachian beefcake\, parenting neurodivergent kids in a hellscape\, and dragging her ass to therapy\, all while laughing at the absurdity of it all. She’s like Miralax for emotional constipation\, organically loosening us all up. You might shit yourself. Your chakras might align. You might run into your therapist (or hers) and have to unpack that later. You might leave with a boner (or the vulva equivalent). You might feel healed. You might feel traumatized. Who’s to say. ADHD and visually stimulated individuals will especially enjoy how she sprinkles her own ridiculous\, heartfelt art throughout the show\, displayed on the big screen in front of you. Please keep in mind that it’s R-rated material\, so don’t bring your MeeMaw unless your MeeMaw is chill. And here’s a fun surprise! The end of the show will morph into a dance party filled with nasty hip hop\, power ballads\, and splashes of Xennial nostalgic tunes. Think DMX\, Celine Dion\, Kendrick\, Beyoncé\, Amy Grant. It’s a delightful sensory buffet that will leave your heart\, eyeballs\, and crotchal region throbbin’ in all the best ways. Bonus! It’s a Saturday night! There’ll be tacos\, beer\, and unhinged merch! AND you’ll probably be in bed\, snuggled under your covers like a sweet\, satiated\, milk-drunk baby\, by 9:30 or 10:00.

SUMMARY:Robin Plemmons: Throbbin’
DESCRIPTION:AGES 18+\nSEATED SHOW\nLIMITED NUMBER OF PREMIUM SEATING TICKETS AVAILABLE \nAsheville artist and comedian Robin Plemmons is back for another round of holleration. Her third one-woman show here at the Grey Eagle is called THROBBIN and she’ll be in her sweet spot- oversharing the hell out of her life: like living with Crohn’s disease\, getting through 8 butthole surgeries\, being married to an Appalachian beefcake\, parenting neurodivergent kids in a hellscape\, and dragging her ass to therapy\, all while laughing at the absurdity of it all.\nShe’s like Miralax for emotional constipation\, organically loosening us all up. \nYou might shit yourself. Your chakras might align. You might run into your therapist (or hers) and have to unpack that later. You might leave with a boner (or the vulva equivalent). You might feel healed. You might feel traumatized. Who’s to say. \nADHD and visually stimulated individuals will especially enjoy how she sprinkles her own ridiculous\, heartfelt art throughout the show\, displayed on the big screen in front of you. Please keep in mind that it’s R-rated material\, so don’t bring your MeeMaw unless your MeeMaw is chill. \nAnd here’s a fun surprise! The end of the show will morph into a dance party filled with nasty hip hop\, power ballads\, and splashes of Xennial nostalgic tunes. Think DMX\, Celine Dion\, Kendrick\, Beyoncé\, Amy Grant. \nIt’s a delightful sensory buffet that will leave your heart\, eyeballs\, and crotchal region throbbin’ in all the best ways. \nBonus! It’s a Saturday night! There’ll be tacos\, beer\, and unhinged merch! AND you’ll probably be in bed\, snuggled under your covers like a sweet\, satiated\, milk-drunk baby\, by 9:30 or 10:00.
