SUMMARY:Hayes Carll
DESCRIPTION:Hayes Carll isn’t preaching or teaching. He’s not interested in telling the rest of us what to do or think. But he is charting out a personal guide for his life\, quieting the noise\, and sitting with his real voice – the one that’s candid\, consistent\, and often inconvenient. We’re Only Human is Carll’s tenth album. Like his best lyrics\, it is also an understated masterpiece\, an honest snapshot of one man’s confrontation and delight with humanity’s biggest and most intimate questions. Where do we find forgiveness for ourselves and grace for others? How do we hold on to peace of mind and stay present? What can we—and should we––trust? And how can we moor ourselves to\, well\, ourselves\, in the midst of confusing\, trying times? We’re Only Human offers audiences the chance to listen to Carll as he listens to himself. “I’ve lived outside of myself for so long\,” Carll admits. “Distractions\, fear\, anxiety\, insecurity\, and the complexity of being human in this world have so often pulled me away from being present or at peace.” “I feel like there’s been a voice riding shotgun all my life\, pushing me to do better\, but I’ve struggled to listen to it\,” Carll says. “The idea behind this record was to do the personal work I needed to do\, then codify those lessons in song to serve as sort of breadcrumbs to get me back on the trail if\, and inevitably when\, I get lost again.” Carll is more than two decades into a celebrated career. Praise from places such as Pitchfork and the New York Times––the latter of which yoked Carll’s ability to tackle tough issues with wry humor to Bob Dylan––punctuate a resume that includes Americana Music Awards and a Grammy nomination. His songs aren’t safe\, but many of Nashville’s stars have recorded them\, including Kenny Chesney\, Lee Ann Womack\, and Brothers Osborne. As a solo recording artist\, Carll has long-since established himself as one of Americana’s most-played––and most loved––voices. His warm but crackling vocals\, wit\, and heart dance through wordplay that’s always clever\, and never too precious. Through it all\, whenever Carll points a finger\, it’s most often at himself. As We’re Only Human collects moments of Carll figuring out how to be with himself\, the songs feel forthright\, hopeful\, and timely. In today’s onslaught of instant gratification\, rage-baiting headlines\, glorified intolerance\, and falling empathy\, the record is a startling outlier: an artist’s raw\, real-life effort to live well—both with himself and others. Carll embraces private epiphanies\, and shares them with the world\, allowing them to unfold for all to see and share.

SUMMARY:APLR Presents: Min Xiao-Fen & Julian Kytasty - Boundless
DESCRIPTION:APLR Presents: Min Xiao-Fen & Julian Kytasty – Boundless \nThursday\, November 5th\, 2026 \nAyurPrana Listening Room – 312 Haywood Rd\, Asheville\, NC 28806 \nDoors 6PM || Show 7PM \nMin Xiao-Fen & Julian Kytasty: Boundless \n“Boundless\, a groundbreaking collaboration between two visionary artists: Chinese pipa soloist and composer Min Xiao-Fen and Ukrainian bandurist and composer Julian Kytasty. Both classically trained and shaped by their work with avant-garde icon Derek Bailey\, Min and Kytasty bridge centuries-old traditions with bold contemporary expression. \nMin’s work\, “Xi Xi\, Cuo Cuo (Wash and Rub)\,” draws inspiration from the overlooked history of Chinese immigrants in the Mississippi Delta. “They lived there for over a century\,” she explains. “In the segregated South\, they ran grocery stores and laundries that served both Black and white communities. My music reflects how they quietly bridged a divided world.” \nKytasty’s “Travel Music” features a rare bandura with a remarkable past. “It was crafted by Iosyp Shizhny\, a pioneering performer who fled the USSR via Manchuria and settled in Shanghai\,” Julian says. “He escaped China in 1948 and brought the instrument to Buenos Aires. I discovered it in 1987\, brought it to New York – and it’s still going strong. I can’t wait to play it with Min.” \nFor Min\, the performance also echoes a poignant memory: performing in Kyiv in 1988 as part of a Chinese cultural exchange. “Through this music\, we continue that spirit of connection—and send a prayer for peace in Ukraine and around the world.” \nBoundless is more than a title – it’s a journey across time\, borders\, and imagination. Don’t miss this unforgettable evening of fearless collaboration and transcendent sound. \nAll-ages

SUMMARY:The Art of Presence: Meditation and Reflection in the Museum
DESCRIPTION:Step into the Museum’s galleries before the doors open for a quiet and contemplative morning of meditation\, mindful walking\, and reflection. This guided experience invites participants to slow down\, settle the nervous system\, and explore the Museum as a place of sanctuary\, spaciousness\, and renewal. \nThe session will begin with a brief seated meditation\, followed by a walking meditation through selected exhibits. Along the way\, participants will pause with gentle mindfulness prompts designed to support personal reflection\, embodied awareness\, and a deeper connection with the artwork. Rather than offering art historical interpretation\, the experience encourages each participant to notice what arises within them through presence\, stillness\, and mindful seeing. The group will honor noble silence throughout much of the session with occasional opportunities for brief reflection and sharing. No previous meditation experience is needed. \nJoin Joshua on 8/22\, 10/3\, 11/7\, and 12/5. \nJoshua Canter is a mindfulness meditation teacher and the founder of True Nature Travels and Education\, an Asheville-based organization that has offered transformative retreats and educational experiences around the world for more than 20 years. He holds a master’s degree in Contemplative Psychology and is passionate about making mindfulness accessible\, grounded\, and relevant to everyday life.

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen | The Danish Collector: Delacroix to Gauguin
DESCRIPTION:For many years no-one was interested in the art of the Impressionists. Artists like Monet\, Degas and Renoir were vilified\, attacked\, and left penniless as a result. Then\, something remarkable happened. A new breed of collectors emerged and\, before long\, they were battling to acquire any work by these new\, radical artists that they could find. Amongst them was the visionary Danish businessman Wilhelm Hansen. It was an extraordinary moment in art history; full of drama\, intrigue and subterfuge. Some collectors we may recognize and some we may not\, but Hansen amassed a remarkable collection housed at his summer home\, Ordrupgaard\, on the outskirts of Copenhagen. Exhibition on Screen tells his fascinating story and\, with exclusive access to a sell- out exhibition at London’s Royal Academy\, brings the extraordinary collection to the big-screen in glorious high-definition. From Hansen’s beautiful house and gardens at Ordrupgaard to the streets of bohemian Paris\, this film takes you on a journey to discover some of the best examples of 19th-century French art ever collected.

Rooted in African rhythms\, storytelling\, and global fusion\, their performances weave together the warm\, expressive voice of Jordan Scheffer with Chinobay’s masterful musicianship on instruments including the Kora\, Kalimba\, Endongo\, and Talking drum.\nTogether\, they offer an experience that is both deeply intimate and joyfully alive — blending Afro-funk\, folk\, soul\, and world music into a sound that feels borderless. Their connection on stage is built on mentorship\, friendship\, and a shared belief in music as a force for healing\, cultural exchange\, and connection. \nJoin us for a powerful afternoon of rhythm\, culture\, and artistry that resonates deep within the soul.\nPart of our Afro Rhythm series produced by Chinobay and White Horse Black Mountain.

SUMMARY:Rumpelstiltskin - Playhouse Jr. - 11/12-11/15
DESCRIPTION:\nA world premiere musical spun from the Grimm Brothers’ classic — a tale of gold\, grit\, and a touch of magic\, set to a captivating score that fuses folk\, rap\, and percussion. \nThe kingdom is in crisis\, the villagers are hungry\, and their future rests in the hands of a poor miller’s daughter. Her only hope is a daring bargain with a mysterious stranger — one that tests the worth of a name\, the power of trust\, and the courage to spark change. \nThis new musical explores the cost of greed and the grace of kindness\, reminding us that what truly matters can’t be measured in gold. \nBe the first to experience a brand-new American musical by Ben Mackel\, developed through the Playhouse Jr. Licensing New Works Initiative. Created entirely under our roof\, this world premiere offers new theatre for all — big and small — continuing a bright new chapter of storytelling from the Playhouse’s stage to the world’s. \nEvent Times:\n11/12 – 7pm\, 11/13 – 7pm\, 11/14 – 2pm & 6pm \, 11/15 – 2pm

SUMMARY:Eddie 9V
DESCRIPTION:Eddie 9V has an endless stockpile of cool stories – and you’ll find twelve of them on his most recent studio album Saratoga\, released in November 2024 on the fabled Ruf Records label. A thrilling mix of Southern soul\, blues\, rock\, and funk\, Saratoga proved to be a gamechanger: a road trip-ready record filled with razor-sharp observations\, vintage textures\, and raw humanity. It also marked a major career milestone: Eddie 9V’s soulful sound began reaching hundreds of thousands of new fans across the globe. \nNow signed to Easy Eye Sound — the Nashville-based label founded by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys — Eddie 9V is preparing to release a brand-new album in 2026. And the momentum keeps growing. Since Saratoga dropped\, Eddie’s monthly listeners on Spotify have exploded from 8\,000 to peaking at over 800\,000.. Songs like “Halo\,” “Saratoga” and “Love Moves Slow” have become SiriusXM Spectrum-certified tracks\, gaining steady spins and major audience love. \nBut this rise is years in the making. From the day he first slung a guitar on a local Georgia stage\, Eddie 9V (born Brooks Mason) has been an artist to watch. First cutting his teeth in cover bands and regional blues circuits\, he made the leap to full-time frontman with a name that couldn’t be ignored. “I wanted to start from scratch – and I ain’t never heard of no bluesman named Eddie 9V.” \nThat leap paid off. His early albums Left My Soul In Memphis (2019) and Little Black Flies (2021) turned heads for their wild energy and vintage flair. 2022’s Capricorn was a breakout moment\, earning rave reviews from Classic Rock\, The Guardian\, and more. It debuted at #1 on the blues charts before being dethroned by Bonnie Raitt — “a cool story to be able to say\,” Eddie laughs. \nBy the time Saratoga arrived\, Eddie 9V had evolved into a full-spectrum songwriter\, tapping into deep wells of soul and storytelling alongside his brother and longtime collaborator Lane Kelly. Much of the album was recorded at their Echo Deco Studio in Atlanta\, with some sessions at Denver’s Crown Lanes Studio. From the disco-tinged horns of the title track to the fuzzed-out dreamscape of “Delta\,” it’s a record that widened the lens without losing the grit. \nNow with a major label partner\, national tours\, SiriusXM airplay\, and streaming growth that shows no signs of slowing\, Eddie 9V is poised for the next chapter. A new album is on the horizon. The band is sharper than ever. And if Saratoga was the ignition\, what’s coming next is the open highway. \n“I’m already writing new songs\,” he says. “You never stop.”
