SUMMARY:ReVIEWING Black Mountain College 2025
DESCRIPTION:The ReVIEWING Black Mountain College conference is a forum for scholars and artists to contribute original work on topics related to Black Mountain College and its place in cultural history. \nThe format is designed to be interdisciplinary\, with sessions that will include panels\, presentations\, performances\, and workshops. BMC itself was a uniquely interdisciplinary organization\, generating output from its faculty and students that often involved the melding of the visual\, performing\, and literary arts. Each year\, conference participation reflects this; past presentations have explored wide-ranging\, fruitful intersections such as (to name just a few of the most recent examples) how Charles Olson’s “projectivist” poetics inspired works on the stage and screen; the influence of choreographer Merce Cunningham on Abstract Expressionist painters trained at BMC such as Pat Passlof and James Bishop; the photography of poet-publisher-artist Jonathan Williams; the path from BMC’s first Summer Institute in honor of Arnold Schoenberg\, to the design and philosophy of contemporary summer arts programs today; a performance connecting Ruth Asawa’s sculpture to contemporary dance; and a workshop offering attendees the opportunity to weave on looms with found materials\, as Anni Albers’ BMC students did. \nThe conference is hosted annually in the fall. ReVIEWING 15 will take place September 26 – 28th\, 2025\, presented in conjunction with BMCM+AC’s fall 2025 exhibition\, Points in Space: Performance at Black Mountain College\, organized by Jeff Arnal\, curator\, and Adolfo Alzuphar\, curatorial assistant. Black Mountain College’s interdisciplinary and collaborative philosophy fostered groundbreaking time-based experiments across disciplines\, significantly influencing performance\, theater\, film\, music\, dance\, and visual art worldwide. The exhibition will feature visual and time-based artworks that echo BMC’s innovative spirit from 1933 to 1957 including historical and contemporary works\, interactive installations\, performances\, and immersive experiences that bring the past into conversation with the present. \n— \nKeynote Speaker: Debra McCall \nDebra McCall is a dance historian\, choreographer\, Certified Movement Analyst\, and performer best known for her reconstructions of Oskar Schlemmer’s 1920s Bauhaus Dances. Recipient of fellowships from the NEA and the NEH\, she also received the Rome Prize in Design from the American Academy in Rome and a Fulbright-Nehru Professional and Academic Excellence Award for her documentation of medieval reliefs of sacred dancers at the Thillai Nataraja Temple in Chidambaram\, Tamil Nadu. McCall served on the graduate faculties of New York University and Pratt Institute where she was Mellon Lecturer. Her Bauhaus work has been presented in a variety of venues including Performa 09\, Artissima 17 Torino\, and Harvard University’s The Bauhaus and Harvard: 100 years.

DESCRIPTION:The Blue Ridge Orchestra takes its performances on the road for its 26th season debut under the leadership of Music Director Dr. Emily Mariko Eng. “Post-Helene: Remembering\, Rebuilding\, Reimagining” captures an array of emotions in two September events. This program features: the world premiere of Sinfonietta Helene by Asheville-based composer Jay Sanders; Iman Habibi’s Jeder Baum spricht\, which is inspired by the beauty of nature and the impact of climate change; Elgar’s “Nimrod” from Enigma Variations to honor the memories of the people and places we lost; and local composer Phillip Rhodes’s Concerto for Bluegrass\, a nod to the resilience of WNC. \nThe BRO’s home at UNC Asheville is undergoing a multi-year scheduled renovation. While displaced from Lipinsky Hall\, we are excited to bring our music to a venue near you! \nOur passionate group of volunteer musicians will perform in the charming Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church\, east of Asheville\, and the renowned Diana Wortham Theatre in downtown Asheville. SUMMARY:Modelface Comedy presents Greg Warren at Eulogy
DESCRIPTION:Modelface Comedy brings you the best comedians from all over the country. This weekend we have Greg Warren at Eulogy in Asheville!! \nGreg Warren is a beloved stand-up comedian known for his sharp\, relatable humor that resonates with everyday families across the country. Warren recently released his latest comedy special\, The Champ\, produced by Nate Bargatze\, now streaming on Nateland’s YouTube channel. The Champtakes audiences through a hilarious exploration of the dangers of poison ivy\, the rise of high school fishing teams\, and his own (somewhat questionable) claims to champion status. The New York Times praised The Champ\, noting: “His appealing\, all-American observational humor begins with such sound\, simple ideas\, executed with commitment. Produced by Nate Bargatze\, who shares his family-friendly\, slice-of-life style\, Warren takes on a big\, bland subject like poison ivy or Walgreens\, then sits with it\, attacking from a dizzying number of angles.” \nGreg’s previous special\, The Salesman — co-produced by Nate Bargatze and 800 Pound Gorilla Media — was hailed by The New York Times\, as “ [having] done for peanut butter what Jerry Seinfeld did for Pop-Tarts and Jim Gaffigan did for Hot Pockets.” The hour tells the story of Greg’s post-college years selling Jif and Pringles for Procter & Gamble\, a formative chapter that ultimately launched his career in stand-up comedy. He can be seen in his Amazon Prime Special\, Where The Field Corn Grows\, Fish Sandwich on Dry Bar Comedy\, Late Night with Seth Meyers\, The Late Late Show and Comedy Central Presents. Greg’s audience consists of a widely diverse spectrum\, having performed as a finalist on BET’s Coming to the Stage and on Country Music Television. He is a longtime favorite on the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom Show\, where he also contributes a recurring call-in segment known as The Warren Report. \nGreg’s material has been a daily staple on SiriusXM for over a decade and can now be heard regularly on the Pure Comedy channel (formerly Laugh USA)\, as well as Jeff & Larry’s Comedy Roundup. He’s guested on top podcasts including Nateland\, Never Not Funny\, Bertcast\, Dumb People Town\, The Adam Carolla Show\, and many more. He was selected as a New Face of Comedy at JFL\, has performed on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend and participated in NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Greg is also the co-host of The Consumers\, a podcast on Nate Bargatze’s Nateland network\, where he and fellow comedians Tim Convy & Sean O’Brien do a weekly deep dive into one national brand. \nGreg hails from St. Louis\, MO\, where his father was a high school wrestling coach\, and his mother made him play clarinet in the band. He has captivated audiences with anecdotes about the conflict inherent in meshing the two disparate high school identities of varsity wrestler and band geek. Greg was also a West Point Cadet\, where he distinguished himself by amassing an impressive tally of demerits and endless hours of pointless marching. After moving on to the University of Missouri\, he studied journalism and became an All-American college wrestler. Warren can be seen working out his new material on a brand new domestic tour throughout 2025. You can find tickets on GregWarrencomedy.com. \nages 18+\ndoors at 6:30\, show at 7pm \nTickets\nGA: $25 advance\, $30 day of\nPremium seating* $35 \n*premium seating is the front three rows and raised seating

SUMMARY:Hemlock Treatment Demonstration at Corneille Bryan Native Gardens
DESCRIPTION:The Hemlock Restoration Initiative (HRI) is hosting a demonstration of chemical treatment methods to control the invasive hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) on Wednesday\, October 1st from 1pm to 4pm at the Corneille Bryan Native Gardens in Lake Junaluska\, NC. \nHemlock trees in western North Carolina are an important and irreplaceable component of our forests. These trees have been suffering for over two decades from hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA)\, an invasive insect that can kill the tree in as little as four years. \nHowever\, hemlock management is simpler and less expensive than ever before. This hands-off demonstration will be useful for landowners\, natural resource managers and tree care professionals. We will use the trees on-site to practice assessing hemlock health to determine the best treatment options\, and HRI staff will demonstrate the HWA chemical treatment methods used on national forest and state lands. These methods are available to all private landowners in North Carolina without obtaining a license or certification. We will also discuss applicator and environmental safety\, special considerations and guidance for hiring a tree care professional. \nThe backup weather date for this event will be October 8th. \nNC pesticide applicators can earn 3 credits for attending (categories G\, L\, N\, D\, and X)\, and ISA members can earn CEUs. \nRegistration is required. Please complete the form linked on our event webpage to register. Email Olivia Hall at education@savehemlocksnc.org or call 828-252-4783 with questions about the event.
