SUMMARY:Sister Act - Flat Rock Playhouse - 10/2-10/25
DESCRIPTION:When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a crime\, she hides out in the last place anyone would look — a convent. Suddenly\, the sequins are swapped for habits\, and the nightclub turns into a nave. But when Deloris brings her unholy amount of soul to the choir loft\, heaven gets a whole new groove. \nSister Act is a holy-rolling\, soul-lifting celebration of sisterhood\, second chances\, and songs that raise the roof. As Deloris helps the sisters find their voices\, they just might change her heart in return. \nPart divine comedy\, part disco revival\, it’s proof that a little funk — and a lot of faith — can turn any sanctuary into a showstopper. \nEvent Times: 2:00 PM & 7:30 PM

SUMMARY:Silverada
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nSILVERADA\nEvolution. It’s what keeps the best bands afloat — song after song\, show after show\, record after record. \nMike Harmeier was still in his early 20s when he formed Mike and the Moonpies. From the start\, they were the definition of a workingman’s country band\, cutting their teeth with five-hour sets on Austin’s dancehall circuit before spreading their music to the rest of America. By the early 2020s\, they’d become global ambassadors of homegrown Texas music\, flying their flag everywhere from Abbey Road Studios (where they recorded 2019’s Cheap Silver & Solid Country Gold with help from the London Symphony Orchestra) to the Grand Ole Opry. \nThe growth was remarkable\, but all that momentum left Harmeier and his four bandmates — drummer Taylor Englert\, guitarist Catlin Rutherford\, bassist Omar Oyoque\, and steel guitarist Zachary Moulton — looking for something new. After all\, their music had decidedly changed. Why shouldn’t their name do the same? \nSilverada marks a new chapter in the band’s history. It’s not just the title of the boldest release of the group’s critically-acclaimed career; it’s also the name of the reinvigorated band itself. \n“Back in the day\, all we wanted to do was play the Broken Spoke\,” says Harmeier\, nodding to the hometown honky-tonk in Austin\, TX\, where Silverada began sowing the seeds for a sound that mixed timeless twang with modern-day dynamics. “We had different aspirations back then. We were still figuring out what kind of band we were gonna be\, and that took a lot of time and a lot of records. \nA lot of records\, indeed. Silverada marks the group’s ninth release\, and it balances the strengths they’ve accumulated along the way — sharp\, detailed songwriting that bounces between autobiographical sketches and character studies; gorgeous swells of pedal steel that drift through the songs like weather; a rhythm section capable of country shuffles\, hard-charging rock & roll tempos\, and everything in between — with a willingness to break old rules and open new doors. “Radio Wave” is a roots-rock anthem for the highway and the heartland\, peppered with Springsteen-worthy hooks and War On Drugs-inspired atmospherics. “Eagle Rare” launches the band into outer space during its explosive middle section\, which the band improvised in the recording studio. “Stay By My Side” showcases Silverada’s road-warrior credentials — the band recorded the track live during a tour across the American Southeast\, capturing it in a single take at Capricorn Sound Studios in Macon\, Georgia — while “Wallflower” blends the organic with the otherworldly\, finding room for harmonized guitar solos\, driving disco beats\, and 808 percussion. \n“Going into the studio\, everybody in the band felt inspired to do something bigger than what they’d done before\,” Harmeier explains. “We all knew we were at a precipice\, and we wanted to jump. I brought in some songs that were metaphorical and not always straightforward\, and that showed the guys that I wanted to take this music somewhere new… so they threw their own rulebooks out the window\, too.”

SUMMARY:APLR Presents: Horse Lords with Brett W. Naucke & World Room
DESCRIPTION:PLR Presents: Horse Lords with Brett W. Naucke & World Room \nMonday\, October 12th\, 2026 \nAyurPrana Listening Room – 312 Haywood Rd\, Asheville\, NC 28806 \nDoors 6 PM || Show 7 PM \nHorse Lords \nHorse Lords were founded in Baltimore\, Maryland in 2010; they evolved from the experimental collective Teeth Mountain and began as a trio with drummer Sam Haberman\, guitarist Owen Gardner\, and bassist Max Eilbacher\, soon adding alto saxophonist Andrew Bernstein to the core ensemble. Though Horse Lords grew out of the fertile Baltimore noise and leftfield rock scene\, a storied environment for artists and weirdos that has nurtured many an influential outsider band (Lungfish\, Matmos)\, their approach is more omnivorous than the stippled rhythms of instrumental electric rock would indicate. \nAcross sixteen years of frequent touring\, Horse Lords have released ten studio\, live\, and collaboration albums in addition to a split EP with fellow Baltimoreans Lower Dens\, a handful of singles and compilation tracks. For RVNG’s FRKWYS series\, the band collaborated with Berlin-based composer Arnold Dreyblatt\, a onetime student of La Monte Young and Pauline Oliveros whose just intonation chamber music was a crucial part of the post-Fluxus Downtown New York City environment. \nWith the relocation of three of the four members to Germany beginning in 2021\, the potential for more further creative exploration\, and performance opportunities including the Moers Festival (with an 11-piece lineup\, interpreting Julius Eastman’s music as well as their own)\, the interdisciplinary phases of the band’s music was poised for fascinating new directions. The band observes “We are always trying to balance working within the limitations of the quartet and pushing beyond them. \nFor their second studio album on RVNG Intl.\, Demand To Be Taken To Heaven Alive!\, Horse Lords have followed this notion and augmented the instrumentation\, expanding the format slightly to include bass clarinetist Madison Greenstone (TAK Ensemble)\, trombonist Weston Olencki (Nate Wooley\, RAGE Thormbones) and vocalists Nina Guo (Departure Duo) and Evelyn Saylor (Holly Herndon\, Caterina Barbieri) across a program of twelve original compositions. \nDemand To Be Taken To Heaven Alive! is a reference to a line in a poem by Russian Futurist writer Vladimir Myakovsky\, and the band have also name-checked the Bauhaus weaver Anni Albers (wife of painter Josef Albers)\, Islamic geometrical patterning\, Dutch avant-garde group the Maciunas Ensemble (themselves named after Fluxus artist and typographer George Maciunas)\, composer/writers Tom Johnson\, Henry Flynt and Catherine Christer Hennix\, and musically draw from sources as diverse as Roscoe Holcolmb\, James Brown\, Kuwaiti/Bahraini sawt\, and electronic composers Maryanne Amacher and Jaap Vink. \nAs the members are keen to point out\, Demand To Be Taken To Heaven Alive! is “a bid for the flattening of time and perception in favor of greater goods [and] the iterative nature of reaching/building a paradise in this life\, not the next\,” and the new album at hand is an illuminating starting point for eternal nowness. \nWorld Room \nWorld Room is the trio of Ashley Paul (saxophone)\, Jake Pugh (electronics)\, and Shane Justice McCord (bass clarinet\, piano). The music revolves around minimalist compositions\, improvisation\, and live processing. They’ve been blessed to perform at the Black Mountain College ReHappening experimental arts festival\, Black Mountain College museum\, and to have recently supported Wolf Eyes. Their debut album is out this autumn on Orange Milk Records. \nBrett W. Naucke \nBrett W. Naucke is an American experimental composer and visual artist from Chicago\, IL currently based in Asheville\, NC. \nNaucke’s sonic output has been primarily focused on marrying an ever-evolving practice of synthesis with conceptual narratives. His most recent recordings have been released by a wide variety of acclaimed labels such as American Dreams\, Spectrum Spools\, Umor Rex\, L.I.E.S\, and Hausu Mountain in addition to many others since 2010. Beyond live performance\, Naucke has provided the original scores for several films\, sound design for interactive gaming\, and presented many works for multi-channel audio and video installations. \nAll ages\nEnding Time is an estimate\nTickets only sold through DICE. Ticket Price will increase on the day of the show. Save by buying before!

SUMMARY:Josiah and the Bonnevilles
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nJOSIAH AND THE BONNEVILLES\nJosiah and the Bonnevilles is led by East Tennessee native Josiah Leming. A singer\, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist\, he began self producing his own music in 2016. He has varied between having a band and playing solo. He has become known for raw emotion and a profound connection to his audience\, which for his solo years took on the name of “The Bonnevilles”. 2024 saw Josiah and the Bonnevilles reaching new heights\, completing a headlining tour of thirty-three sold-out dates followed by a slew of international stops that proved his global following. After taking 2025 away from the public eye to work on new music\, 2026 brought the 4th JATB album “As Is’ and the accompaniment of a stellar cast of musicians both in studio and and stage.\nLeming comes by his empathy for working people honestly. He’s one of nine siblings\, born and raised in Morristown\, Tennessee\, right in the heart of Appalachia. His father was a factory worker. He taught himself piano when he was eight and was writing songs by thirteen. As a child he was intently aware of his community and intensely proud of his people\, something he thinks about even more in trying times. “Being a regular person\, working\, trying your best. I think that’s something to be proud of.

SUMMARY:Joshua Ray Walker w/ Cecilia Castleman
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nJOSHUA RAY WALKER\nJoshua Ray Walker is a Dallas-born Country/Americana songwriter known for vivid\, character-driven storytelling and a rich tenor that blends classic Texas tradition with a modern emotional edge. Since his 2019 debut\, he has built a catalog defined by sharp writing\, dark humor\, and deep empathy for complicated people\, earning national television appearances\, multiple Grand Ole Opry performances\, and more than 2\,000 shows across the U.S. and Europe. \nHis sixth studio album\, Ain’t Dead Yet\, marks his most personal chapter to date. Recorded before\, during\, and after cancer treatment\, (including sessions the day before lung surgery that could have permanently altered his voice)\, the record wrestles with mortality\, gratitude\, memory\, and transformation. Sonically rooted in pedal steel\, fiddle\, and Walker’s signature guitar picking\, it captures an artist confronting uncertainty with defiance \, clarity\, and hard-won joy. \nAcross every release\, from early character portraits to ambitious concept records\, Walker’s through-line remains the same: songs that tell the truth\, even when it’s uncomfortable. On Ain’t Dead Yet\, he expands that hallmark into his most personal chapter yet\, documenting a profound period of change and a hard-won second chance.

SUMMARY:ENCOUNTERS WITH CREATIVES – GEOFF BARBEY\, ORIGINAL OIL ARTIST
DESCRIPTION:(FREE) Meet and watch original oil artist Geoff Barbey as he demonstrates his talents. \nAfter a 25-year career in advertising and marketing\, Geoff felt the pull back to the canvas\, rediscovering a love that emerged as a child touring museums in New York City with his grandmother. He was particularly drawn to the Impressionist paintings and completely captivated by landscape artists like George Inness\, John Singer Sargent\, and all the Hudson River School painters. The way they captured the beauty of nature and the interplay of light and shadow left a lasting impression on me. Today\, his paintings are part of many private collections\, serving as a testament to the enduring power of his vision and commitment to the art of painting.

SUMMARY:Asheville Symphony Masterworks 2: Nightfall
DESCRIPTION:Darko Butorac\, conductor\nJoseph Conyers\, double bass \nThere is a serene kind of beauty found only at twilight\, when the landscape cedes to legend; this program lingers in these wild places at their most untamed and fragile. Anna Clyne’s stormy nocturne gathers “every shred of the luminous past” like “a naked woman running mad through the pure night.” Tan Dun’s spiritually cinematic Wolf Totem summons the mythical Mongolian wolf from the grasslands. Sibelius’s devastating Fifth conjures the inscrutable patterns of the aurora. Three works that find beauty in loss\, solace in vast spaces\, and mystery in the gathering dark. \nClyne: This Midnight Hour\nTan: Contrabass Concerto: Wolf Totem\nSibelius: Symphony No. 5

SUMMARY:APLR & Lonesome Station Present: Maya De Vitry with Lyle De Vitry
DESCRIPTION:APLR & Lonesome Station Present: Maya De Vitry with Lyle De Vitry \nSaturday\, October 17th\, 2026 \nAyurPrana Listening Room – 312 Haywood Rd\, Asheville\, NC 28806 \nDoors 6PM || Show 7 PM \nMaya De Vitry \nOriginally from the green rolling hills of Lancaster County\, Pennsylvania\, Maya de Vitry is a Nashville-based fiddler-turned-songwriter with a voice that glides effortlessly between tenderness and strength. Her earliest years in the music industry are represented by the 4 full-length albums and 2 EPs with roots-Americana trio The Stray Birds\, with whom she toured year-round for 7 years throughout USA\, Canada\, and Europe. After this formative chapter\, she launched her solo career with her 2019 album Adaptations\, earning praise from Rolling Stone Country\, NPR Music\, and No Depression. Since then\, she has released three more full-length albums—How to Break a Fall (2020)\, Violet Light (2022)\, and The Only Moment (2024); an EP\, Infinite (2023); and multiple singles\, all of which are testaments to her personal reinvention and creative growth. \nEnergized by the spontaneity of live performance and a revelatory pursuit of truth in her lyric writing\, Maya de Vitry returns with her fifth full-length album\, All My Faith. Prioritizing presence and grit over studio polish\, she sounds joyously at home in the alt-country and indie-folk realms. Recorded and mixed by 5-time Grammy Award-winning engineer Sean Sullivan and self-produced by de Vitry\, All My Faith is a buoyant gathering of songs brought to life by a cast of her closest confidantes and collaborators. All My Faith will be released on de Vitry’s own Mad Maker Studio label on July 24. \n“I’d like my music to feel like you are invited into a lush living forest or into a remote river canyon where suddenly you are stripped of not only modern conveniences but also modern distractions. Where you can feel the essence of your own humanity and those around you. Where suddenly a stranger’s story becomes interesting\, or where you might choose teamwork and problem-solving and creativity over dogma. Where reciprocity and care start to feel more natural than just about anything else\,” she reflects. \nFrom canyons to kitchens\, from cold lakes to highway truck stops\, the songs form a vibrant collage of joy\, sorrow\, and gut-wrenching honesty. Whether spinning an inspirational tale about hungover bachelorettes at the Nashville airport or exploring the prison of our own adaptations\, de Vitry brings a grounded confidence and quiet charisma rooted in her belief in the power of song to change us. \nLyle De Vitry \nEffortlessly moving between unity and dissonance\, voice and instrumentation\, rhythm and melody\, Lyle de Vitry integrates the comfort of folk music with the spine-shivering emotional release and intentionality of classical compositions. In so doing\, he manages to create a sound as dynamic and honest as the ocean’s eternally flowing tides or the planet’s ever-changing seasons. An acclaimed songwriter and multi-instrumentalist\, de Vitry was selected as one of ten finalists for the 2023 Telluride Troubadours contest and was named runner-up in the 2023 NewSong LEAF Singer-Songwriter Competition. \nAll ages\nEnding Time is an estimate\nTickets only sold through DICE.

SUMMARY:Carsie Blanton
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nCARSIE BLANTON\nCarsie Blanton is a songwriter with hooks\, chutzpah\, and revolutionary optimism. A radical folk artist in the tradition of Woody Guthrie\, her infectious melodies and lyrical wit keep listeners rapt while she conjures spirits of vaudeville\, campfire singalongs\, and punk rock. Blanton and her road-tested band deploy humor\, camaraderie\, and considerable musical muscle to enroll each audience in a rare vision of hope and solidarity. \nIn addition to writing and performing music\, Carsie works as a political organizer and activist. In fall of 2025\, she participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla\, a direct action to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza by sailboat. In early October\, after a month at sea\, she was imprisoned in Israel for five days along with hundreds of her comrades. \nSoon after\, Blanton released The Little Flame\, a song of solidarity covered widely on social media during her detention. The Little Flame features background vocals from Irish band Ye Vagabonds and Carsie’s Palestinian/New Zealander prison-mate Rana Hamida\, and appears on her latest album\, The Red Album Vol II. \nAfter two decades spent on the road\, Blanton has amassed a dedicated fan base and a small menagerie of viral hits\, and regularly sells out mid-size venues across the U.S. and Europe. 2026 will find her touring heavily with her own band and in collaboration with Canadian folk-punk rabblerousers The Burning Hell\, as well as continuing her organizing work with Artists Against Apartheid\, Party for Socialism and Liberation and others.
